Inteior Detail Question

Still pretty new to detailing, the original plan was to work on exteriors washes and paint correction but as any business starting up you cant be to picky about your about your initial customer base/requests. I got a call from a small used car dealership asking if i could only do interior details on a few cars a week, I showed him a demo on 1 of the cars and he liked my work and hired me. (Using Megs Quik Interior Detailer/ HD Total and Protect)



Now my question is, I use 100% cotton towels on the interior because i have a lot of those towels laying around, are they the best possible choice for interior cleaning or should Invest in microfiber towels?
 
I'd say use the cotton towels for carpets and upholstery and MF for Leather, vinyl and plastic. Invest in reasonable quality MF towels for this. The cheap ones may be tempting and work for a while, but after a few washes they are shot. Spend a little more and have them last >4X as long.
 
For interiors, the cotton towels are perfectly fine as long as they're not linting/leaving anything behind. As you wear them out, though, I'd start transitioning to Microfiber (just pick up the bulk ones from Sam's Club, they last fine if you take good care of them).
 
Use them, it's a "used car" dealer, why waste money on investing to do things like with a micro fiber when you don't know if you will ever collect your fee's and how long they will keep you.

That said, if they are still paying you in a couple of months, you build a "bond" with the lot owner/owners, then think about investing in better quality clothes.

Just some advice from an old boy with many years and years of dealing with both used and new car dealerships.

Thanks for the advice, Ill invest it some MF towels when i get more cars.

What are the are the MF towels from sam's club called.

The Costco towels are far inferior to the Sam's ones though, IME. Don't last near as long, aren't as soft, etc.
 
For a lot of jobs I prefer the way cotton absorbs, but yeah, the lint can drive you nuts, especially on certain "grabby" surfaces. Be *VERY* careful around windows as sometimes the rubber can be a royal PIA to get lint-free; spend enough time resolving that and there goes your profit margin!



Heh heh, I gotta say that my first thought when I saw this thread was "I bet those interiors are gonna be bad, otherwise they wouldn't be paying to have 'em done if they're OK with DIYing the exteriors". Watch that they don't expect miracles for the time you'll be spending.
