Well this was my first detail on my car. It is a 1996 Pontiac Firebird right at 130,000 miles. I've always been extremely anal when it comes to my car and always thought I had the right techniques when detailing my car, but boy was I lacking. I have spent months reading daily all threads and trying to get a grip on the correct processes and products to use.

My car had pretty bad swirls that were not so visible mostly because red hides them well I think. My process was as follows:

1) Poorboys S&W
2) Poorboys SSR 2.5 via PC with Polishing Pad (several times over some spots)
3) Poorboys SSR 1 via PC with Polishing Pad
4) Poorboys S&W
5) Poorboys EX via PC with Finishing Pad
6) Waited 24 hours
7) Poorboys EX via hand with applicator
8) Waited 24 hours
9) Poorboys Natty Paste Wax via hand with applicator

On the wheels and tires:
1) Poorboys S&W
2) Poorboys EX via hand with applicator
3) Meguiars High Endurance High Gloss Gel via tire swipe

Now my car had been clayed about a month ago so I did not do it again.

I think it came out beautiful and I do not believe the pictures do justice what-so-ever. Not to mention Im the worse photographer ever I believe.

Now it is not a perfect finish yet as I can still see very faint swirls and some marring that I would love to get rid of. I believe I should have used a cutting pad with the SSR 2.5 but it was hard to tell so I went with the less abrasive approach. Ill wait a few weeks and redo my detail and try and get it perfect.

I failed to take before pictures because I couldnt really get good pictures of the swirls and such.

Here are some pictures

Now I will admit GSRtilez that I have basically learned what I wanted to do from you. I've read all your threads and admired the deep and wet looking color of your red..its simply amazing. I asked you about a month ago about your favorite process and you said it was the EX and Nattys so I had to go with that!

And where would a complete detail be without doing the interior. Now I will admit its not much of a change when I detail the interior because my interior never gets dirty. But here are a few shots of it anyways.

great job! its pics like those that sorta make me regret getting a silver car. sometimes i wish i had gotten a red, or blue, or white car. really awesome job, how long did it take you?

Well on day 1 the polishing took about 4-5 hours.

The interior detail took probably 10 minutes.

Im still contemplating whether or not to redo everything when I get my cutting pad in. The swirls are not bad, but im extremely picky and knowing that they can disapear makes me really want to re-do it, but I dont want to throw all that product away and waste it you know. What would you guys do?

personally, i would probably drive it around for a while, but once it rains, it would give a good excuse to strip it all off and start over. just my opinion...... if you have lots of time and patience, and enjoy to work, go ahead and do it again. then, you shall be a true jedi master. i guess the fact that im lazy at times makes me a mere padawan.

Yes I have to agree that all your research has paid off. That is a beautiful looking car and you should be proud .:bigups

Well school doesnt start back till Jan 7th or so, so I have a few weeks to do nothing.

The only thing is finding a day that is tolerable to work in. It was about 53 when I did that detail and it felt rather good outside. But starting about Sun/Monday the high is supposed to be 35. Im an enthusiast but I cant stay outside for 4 hours in 35 degree weather.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

josh: the car looks great

Based on the 4th pic you're not very tall, are you? Must have been tough to do the hood & the roof. :rolling

I was going to say that , but I've been taking "smoooth" lessons from the Fuzz :lmfao :rofl

LOLLL!!!!

Well it doesnt look like im short huh, but I was leaning over because I suck at taking pictures.

Actually Im probably about 5' 10", and the roof was still pretty hard to reach all the way in the center, but definitely not impossible.

Looks Great! You need to do a bit more cleaning on the gas & brake pedals though ;)

Haha 4 hours of cleaning and you criticize my pedals!! lol JK!

Yea I always look over them for some reason, but I'm about to run out and use an old toothbrush and scrub them down some. Thanks for noticing!
