I'm Doubting my pad choice.

Weight is the enemy.
I just got done doing an "it's warm enough to be outside in a light sweatshirt" detail of my dad's car, nothing big, just paint cleaning and sealing. I decided to try out my new UPP, and I thought it would be best if i used UPC first.

My Process:

Spray & Wipe w/ Cobra WW MF Towel
UPC w/ orange medium cutting pad (probably a tad firm) on PC
UPP w/ black finishing pad (great pad, need to get more) on PC
Maybe a topper by hand once UPP cures tomorrow

Pics once it gets light again, probably.

My impression is that I probably should have used a considerably softer pad to apply the UPC. It took me nearly an hour with my favorite MF to buff off all of the residue and there seemed to be a good deal of "dust". Does anyone have any suggestions for a softish pad to apply UPC w/ a PC.

Also, should I use #16, or #26 for a topper tomorrow? I'm thinking #26 because I'm going to be doing the car again in about a month, so durability is not an issue.

I have used 26 via LC black finish pad. I was very impressed and it goes on very nicely and buffs off super easy. Im used 26 paste and just dab it on the pad. The only downfall is that the yellow chunks prove to sometimes be hard to remove from your pad. I have also applied it via a MF bonnet which works the best.

You definitely should of used a softer pad. Cutting is way too strong. Polishing or a Fine Pad would be best. I suggest UPP x2 be the best.

I was only going to UPP once because I will be polishing it off in three to five weeks. No use wasting it, you know.

:yeah

I have used #26 on many of my details and had very warm resluts.

That orange pad is a different pad altogether, difficult on anything but flat surfaces......Takes some getting use to for sure....

The pad was fine, it was just what it did to the product. I'd never had a cleaner bond to a finish that aggressively. It was very hard to get any of it to come off.

UPC for me was easy to use and didn't grip at all. Use less product or watch how your applying it. Its a very glossy pre cleanser :D

It could also be that there was a film of something on the paint that the S&W didn't remove. I know in PA, they use different ice-melt materials on the road and some of them leave a light brown residue on the car (almost like a very thin film of tar). It causes most of my cleaners to get gummy and hard to remove. I usually use a tar remover on the entire car during/after the winter months. UPC for me was slightly more work to remove than AIO and I used a polishing pad to apply it.
