Hello Again!

I was wondering how I should apply SMR. Should I use circular motions, or should I go with more of an up-and-down motion? Thanks a ton, guys!

Brett

Welcome, OneQuickGT1!

I apply SMR using a foam applicator in the direction of windflow on the car panel. So, I generally go back and forth rather than in circular motions. You really have to work the product into the paint to get it to work well (by hand). You dont need much pressure at all, but you have to continue moving your hand until the SMR is starting to buff off.

Thank you for your help, this is the way I was going to attempt to apply the SMR. As always, great advice from a great forum.

You didn't say if you were using 3M, Meguiar's #9, or Meguiar's #9 2.0. The last one is easy to get good results with by hand. The 1st two are not. These products have diminishing abrasives that start out coarse enough to actually remove micro-amounts of clear coat, to round out the edges of scratches or polish them out completely - but at this coarseness it can leave super-fine scratches which will appear as haze - especially on darker cars - and the extent depends upon upon the particular kind of paint. Most of us like to use SMR with the orbital, because the secret to success is to work it, work it, work it some more, and keep working it. This breaks down the abrasives until they are super-fine polishing compounds, which polish out the super-fine scratches you put in with the same stuff earlier.

There is plenty of info about this on this board. feel free to search for more.

Well not sure if any of you noticed but I had been off the forum since December. On Dec 18th I woke up with severe stomach pains. I thought it was my appendix at first but was in the wrong location. I went to an Urgent Care first, but they told me the pain was to bad for them to do anything and they sent me to the ER. My gf drove me and the pain just kept on getting worse. Got to the ER and they immediately admitted me to the hospital and put me on a fentanyl drip to kill the pain. That didnt even touch the pain for a few hours.

This is where it gets fuzy. On the 19th they were still trying to figure out what was wrong with me. The pain got worse and my blood pressure went through the roof. It was 185/120 and higher. They took me from my room and pretty much knocked me out and put me on a dialysis machine. Thats when they figured out it was my pancreas that shut down and was leaking acid onto my insides. The pain is equal to taking a lighter to the underside of your arm holding it there till it burns to your bone. Pleasant huh.

At this point im on dialysis but not getting better. This hospital didnt have the facilities to put me on multiple dialysis machines so I was air lifted to another ICU here in Omaha and placed on 4 dialysis machines at once, pain killer drips and had a tube shoved down my throat.

My dad has been in the medical field for almost 40 years. When I got air lifted he said i wasnt going to make it, just because of the shock to my body. He should have been right too. I had about 6 close calls. Really I shouldnt be here right now just because my body shouldnt have stood up to the abuse it went through with all the machines.

So im very fortunate to be alive and back on my feet. I spend 31 days in the ICU and 8 days in rehab. I have rehab for anopther 2 months to build strength back. It will be a good month before im back to work. Im still on supplement oxygen.

Sorry for the book here but just thought you guys would like to know. If you have any questions please free to ask.

Michael

WOW Mike,

I am so sorry to hear about your ordeal. I was wondering what happened to you, but I just assumed that you were probably on vacation.

Thank god you pulled through this, and I am so happy to hear that you are doing better. Rest up, so you can get your strength back, and get your life back to normal.

If there is anything that I can do, please let me know.

That is absolutely crazy! I'm so glad you are doing better! Are you expecting a full recovery/no problems in the future? Is your pancrese still producing insulin? I would assume it could be damaged, requiring insulin therapy? (If so please PM me, I have been type 1 diabetic for 12 years and would love to help).

Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you and we are SO GLAD that you are back.

Best

Todd

Was wondering where you been Mike, sorry to hear this hope you get to full strenght and full recovery!

Mike, that's a scare. I'm glad you made it through. Do they know what caused it? Hope you recover quickly.

Dan

Dang! Like others, I thought you were enjoying a great vacation - who knew?

You must have some strong will to survive all of that...you'll pull through just fine.

Sounds like your GF is a keeper.

Regards,
GEWB
