If you were to trip down memory lane...WWYD?

New Normal
As some of you may know I am a rather large individual. Politely stated. Heck, I am or was really overweight. Have been losing weight these last few months and I can see some light at the end of the tunnel. Although it is a long tunnel.

MY ultimate goal is to weigh in at least one day at 180 pounds. If I do see the light at the end of the tunnel (180 lbs.) before the 15th of march, 2007. I told the wife that I was going to purchase a new or different vheicle to go with my new body. ( only 85 lbs. to go) She did not even bat an eye. She said that I could buy any vehicle that I could afford. She also knows that it is fairly improbable for me to lose another 85 pounds in three months

With that said I first thought of a Corvette. Had a few days of fun looking at Corvettes. I made the mistake of going to EBAY and looking at many of the vehicles that Ebay had lsited. Wow, there sure are a lot of different kinds of vehicles.

Does any one else, besides me, spend time dreaming over cars that they most likely will not ever purchase? I know I am going to continue doing this because it is cheap entertainment. It has also been a great distraction to my second favorite hobby(detailing being first) EATING!!

How about it guys....? If you were searching for a vehicle from the past, what would it be? Poorboy's new calendar had a lot to do with this trip down memory lane.

Who doesn't...
I know that I will never even own a replica, but I can't but to dream about

So keep looking Kirk, you have a better shot at yours than I do at mine

Thanks, Jay!! I know that I will keep looking. I guess it is always nice to aspire to do things that are out of reach yet possible.

Dreams are what keep us going. First off, congratulations on your weight loss. You'll continue, whether it is the whole 80-something by March or not, you'll continue, if you keep your mind on it.

Looking at cars we won't own can be fun, as long as you don't turn it into an obsession or sessions of beating yourself up mentally (why can't I afford this, why couldn't I just get this, my current vehicle stinks compared to that).

You've found something key in your weight loss...you said you replace eating with another activity. Many of us who are or were overweight do far better upon making and acting on that discovery. As long as it's a healthy diversion, you'll be fine.

Thanks for the compliment!!

You are right about the replacing thing. It keeps me home. Near the wife and kids and......it is cheap. At least while I am looking. It looks like it could be a lot of money if I would decide to purchase.

I am 19 years old, i have my whole life ahead of me. I still have a chance to buy many cars. However having said that I dream of cars. I have never been a car guy, i dont enjoy chaning oil or working on my car other then detailing. However I know when every new luxry car is comming out, all the specs. I dont car about the common car but I dream of bently, feraris. masteratis, mabach, rolls royce, ect.

I have to say my favortive car is the maserati Qutroportte. (i wish i could have one). I also know that a benlty dealership is opening in less then 6 months (im going to try to get in as a detailer, even if I have to work for them)

The only way we will get where we want is by dreaming, then making it a reality.

That would be my choice of a car except in a nice deep blue with lots and lots of metal flake. Mmmm. :D. Another one atop my list is a '99 or '00 Dodge Viper in the same colors. Sure that was only 8 years ago but I was only 11 . For an even newer car the 06 Cadillac CTS-V in black. Or an '87 Monte SS, or an 80's Chevy pickup, or a 70-72 Chevelle SS in the blue and white combo, or a black Corvette (any year) with nice all red interior with red leather. So what I'm an American kind of guy  Don't get me wrong I'll glady take a Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, Maserati, BMW, Mercedes, etc. but the ones listed above are the ones that I would choose first. Now finding the money to get them... oh well it doesn't hurt dreaming!!

FWIW, I have had a similar experience with you Kirk with searching for cars and dreaming. I am modifying my dirt bike right now to make it a street legal supermoto bike and have been spending my time and money on that. Especially now that the weather is turning and I can't be detailing. Good luck with your endeavor!!

My vehicle wants have always been pretty reasonable and because of that, I have actually owned about anything I ever wanted.
Those wants never included any true exotics, but were not necassarily mundane, either. Cadillac, Lincoln, Corvette, GTO, AWD Turbo Talon, Riviera, Grand Prix, Mustang all have been in the garage at one time or another. There again, when you have owned about 50 of them, your vehicle list is rather extensive.
If I could have one car that I really would like to have, it would be my 1965 GTO. Not one like it, but that particular car. I ordered it new with every performance option that Pontiac had available plus all the luxury items as well. The window sticker was two pages and the Pontiac dealer made me put a sizeable deposit before he would even order the car. It was the first car I ever kept a full 12 months. I had it 3.5 years and got rid of it because of insurance and drivers license problems.
I did try to find it about 10 years ago and the DMV records on it stopped in the mid 70s. They told me that only meant it was no longer registered in Iowa and could have gone to the crusher, out of state or be in a barn. I did a little looking through a GTO owners group, but had no luck.

And no, I don't go look at new cars. Every time I do, I end up buying one.:D

I'm not sure I would go too far back into the past at all. I'm a big fan of the current exotics. My all time dream car is a Saleen S7 Twin Turbo, but I'd settle for any Aston Martin, a Koenigsegg, an Audi RS4, and a few select Ferarri's. But with my current job, I'm glad to be driving the A4 and will own a Porsche Cayman S by 2012.

Other than the nostalgia, I would have to agree with the current crop of vehicles being better than some of the older ones we would like to have.
My GTP is probably almost as quick as the GTO was and probably would be quicker if it had a manual transmission like the Goat did. It gets well over twice the gas mileage, handles better, rides better, and will probably run twice as many miles without major repairs, but I would trade it for my old GTO in a heartbeat.:smile

I dream about cars all the time, I always tell the wife that if one day I had enough money to buy all the cars that I like, we wouldn't have enough garages to keep them all in.

Having said that I love BMW all of them, today I'm driving one of the dream cars that I always wanted...540i, with a big BMW V8 power house, nice after market rims and a custom muffler and I'm a happy camper.

Even with money I would still want to own a car that was dependable and the exotics don't always represent that.

So I guess when I get rich from winning the lottery I will own two Bentlys...one to drive and the other to have in the shop being fixed:cool:

1967-1969 Camaro in perfect (or as near to it as you can get) condition. It's the only car I can really say I've ever "dreamed" about.

There is only one car that is worthy of an accomplishment such as yours. It's a 70 Mach 1, 428 Drag Pack. You would really look good in it.

Dreams are definitely what keep us going. I would love learn more about what goes on underneath a car's hood and understand the car's systems well enough to one day buy a old classic car and restore her myself. This has always been a dream of mine. I am reading books and Gearhead has been gracious enough to give me some pointers and tips about places to go to learn more. If we put one foot in front of the other and keep walking we will eventually get where we are going sooner or later.

Cwcad, stick with it and you'll get there. I admire you your determination and I want to encourage you not to give up. Hang in there and you'll reach that goal. :) Maybe then I'll take your skinny self out in my restored car someday?? :) Stranger things have happened. :)

Cheap, yes...not eating as much made it cheaper for me. I used to be a fast food junkie. Not only was I loading garbage into myself, it was costing me a bunch more than eating healthy! Giving up all fast food with the exception of Subway was my single biggest contributor to getting healthy. It worked!

Working on other people's cars can sometimes slow the urge to buy another. It takes some of the fantasy out of a particular model once you've worked on it and been around it. You can now say you have driven it...something many people will never say. The car hobby can actually give you a lot of the enjoyment without the cost! There are ways around this "expensive" problem. :)

Well looking is cheap. When it comes to cheap I always like to qoute Dolly Pardon. She said, "It takes an awful lot of money to look this cheap." LOL! I love Dolly Pardon.

As far as eating cheap is all relative. I never was one of those fast food junkies. Yet eating healthy was not something that I did either. Going to the store daily to get fresh fruit is something I enjoy. So it takes away from the cost of going there. Not cheap.

I would go with the "65" GTO but my brother has the one that you mentioned, Charles. It is a dream car but do not want to seem like I am a copy cat of the older brother.

The "70" Mach 1 Mustang is one that I would consider. Had a friend years ago that had one. It is right up there in my field of dreams. here are a lot of them that come to mind from that era. As Jared said the Camaro or how about the "66" Chevelle SS. The 69 GTO as well. I also would like to think about a Mercedes 450 SL. the one the BIonic Man drove on the TV series. I forget the year. Anyone out there know which one I am talking about?

There are also the up to date old rigs that the likes of Chip Foose(sp) create. They are old and new all at the same time. I know we are talking big money but what the heck....I can dream ....can I not....?

Hope the suggestions keep pouring in. I try to research each one. When I cannot find a vehicle I just talk to the wife and she finds it for me on the internet. She is a real sleuth when it comes to researching things.

Kirk:
If there is any chance that your brother does have the car I mentioned, not one like it, but that particular car, I would very much like to talk to him.

Charles, it is like the one you mentioned just not with all the options that you mentioned.

Although if you have a VIN number I could call and get it to make sure.

Thanks. You probably saved your brother some harassment and me a bunch of money.
But, just in case.
VIN 237375P172618

Red/Red, Tri Power, 4 Speed, no console. Lots of other stuff, but that's a start.:)
