If you had to pick one

Well, I ordered my Porter Cable 7424 and a large selection of pads from AG. Just saw delivery scheduled for tomorrow. I'm excited to try detailing with the right tools. I've read a bunches of articles here and from AG and Proper Auto Care. I've decided to take the non-carnuba wax path and go for maximum long lasting protection. That said, I see a couple of choices for products. I want to use one company for everything to start with - from wash to wax and all points in between. I'm leaning towards Wolfgang, considering Menzerna and maybe XMT. I know I need to order something ASAP! Therefore, I respectfully ask ya'll to please give me your opinions. BTW, I intend to try to start a little biz at home and will probably see cars from 10 yaears old to new. Thanks for your time, I appreciate it!

I will be the third for Poorboy's. It has something for everything. Relatively inexpensive with good results. Have used others and also produced very good results but my personal preference for a one product line would be Poorboy's.

Hi I to would go with Poorboys, living in Northern WI and recently finding Poorboys products see they work extremely well great results with little effort, Go with Poorboys

Although I [ahem] used another brand on my car, when an older gentleman asked me what I use, I told him Poorboys. He'd never heard of it, of course, so I told him to go to poorboysworld.com for all the information about Steve's products.

BTW, I'm about to do an entire Poorboys regimen on my car in time for the fall.

I would still consider using different lines. There isn't one line where I like all their products, as long as everything works together, mixing products based on price and how well they work is best for me IMO.

If you have to use one line Poorboys is a good place to start.

Wow, overall I'd say ya'll like Poor Boy's, with a vote for Menzerna and Wolfgang. OK, I've looked at PB's line. It's a bit confusing, could somebody give me the products to get list? I don't mind buying a bunch, but do you need 3 different strenghs of compound/polish? Also, which LSP?

no you can get away with 2.5 and 1 for a majority of things... as far as LSP.. I like natty's blue for summer and EX for winter. and the suporting products go a long way also...if you want to PwC could be used in place of SSR 1(on black I would still use three steps)
Steve has a bucket O products you could get I believe the only thing you would have to add is the SSR

Not trying to sway your final purchase but I have to vote for Wolfgang. No other product line has ever given me more satisfaction. The Deep Gloss Sealant is on par with Menzerna FMJ but at a fraction of the price.

All of the other products in the lineup are top notch and I have been using Wolfgang consistently for over 3 years now. Excellent products.

I'm an admin here at DC so maybe my opinion might come across as biased, but I use what I like and like what I use. Take it for what it's worth, about 2 cents.

I've tried WG, and it's ok, but you get a lot of dust attraction, and the slickness goes to zero after a few washes. Poorboys might be a better option if you want to stick with a DC line. EX or EX-P would be my choices. They aren't quite as easy to use as WG, but they look better and last longer based on my uses.

Personally, I would have to vote for Zaino:yay

For Polishes, I would recommend the Menzerna line.

'Tried and True' -You will get consistent results.

my 2 cents,

If I could only use one line of products -- it'd be Auto Magic's

But for me, I can use many :lol

My two cents worth here: if I was to restrict down to one set of products only (and I would never recommend doing this, as if you vary manufacturers yu can get all their best products and I feel have a stronger armoury).... It would be Meguiars. Very wide range of polishes, glazes, sealents and waxes. #83 will remove medium swilrs from most paint types in my experience but does have a learning curve with it - needs to be fully worked and properly broken down to get the best from it and this takes time in application - speed 5 only (never 6) and I work an 18" square area for about four or five minutes, then it wipes off east and is excellent for swirl removal. Even on harder paints like those from the VAG group its highly effective. #80 - well, that one of my favourite products!

Menzerna I also rate very highly - my detailing collection for defect removal contains Meguiars and Menzerna after trialling many different brands these were the ones I liked best and went for.

I know that Poorboys are highly regarded, but I personally found that they didn't suit me - found the likes of SSR2.5 never finished as well as #83 or Intensive Polish and removed less in the way of defects, though this may well be because my techniques suit the Meguiars and Menzerna products better. But I personally didn't really get on with Poorboys... Not to say they are bad products or I had bad results with them, I just hot better results from Meguiars and Menzera. :)

I bought WG, used all their stuff except for the tire/wheel stuff. Only thing I didn't care for was the glaze. I did my wife's Toyota van, washed, clayed - noticed hard water spots on the roof so I switched to swirl remover and then glaze before the sealer. That gaze was the hardest darn thing I've tried to remove since "rain dance" back in the '80s! I wonder if I could have just skiped that and used the pre-wax polish instead? - Details: van is a year old and was has been wazed with NXT in the past.

If your wax is a bear to get off I find that the car is not clean! If earlier steps are done correct your polishes and wax's should come off like butter.
I used menzerna on my first job and find it hard to bealive anything can beat it. Wolfgang is even in my opinion both great products.
p.s. other reason for pain in the a@@ removal could be you are puting product on too thick and not working it long enough.:)

Glen, the swirl remover was put on with PC, orange pad and wiped clean with a micro fiber towel. I tried different tricks with the glaze - PC with gray pad, I put it on thin, buffed til it was just a haze and used the towel, then I tried letting it set up for a few minutes. I honestly don't think I could have put it on any thinner. I am sure the paint was clean, temps were in the low 80's and humidity was low, I was inside my garage with windoes open and 2 fans blowing the warm air about. What about skipping the glaze and using pre-waz polish? BTW - my next purchase- Ill either try the PB or Menzerna, I like WG stuuf - except that glaze!
