I have become my father

Beemerboy

Just One More Coat
I was having coffee at a local Starbucks this morning. I live close to a state university and this place is across the street form the college. Anyway I see four kids walk in three girls and one guy. The girls all had pants on that where so tight and low cut that you could see all of there mid-drift area and the color of there under wear. (not complaining to much on this one)
The guy had a pair of jeans on that where hanging off his tail end so low that I had to wonder how it kept them up. I mean the crotch area and pockets where at his knees. You would have to of bend over and touch your ankles in order to get your wallet out of if your back pocket, having said that they girls couldn't have put a credit card in there pockets

I had to just shake my head a bit, then on the way home I gave thought to my Dad and what he use to say to me and my sister in the 60's about how we dressed.

I guess I've become my father and that's alright with me as I have not had him here for many years...

Thanks for listening

Remember the day when, seeing such a sight would make something ELSE shake? As in, quiver? (Moderator, please don't pull my post! I'll be good from now on!) :lmfao

The more time passes, the more I become like my Dad!:) And now my garage has become to me, what his basement workshop was to him.:)

The other day, when my sister told Mom about all the time I'd spent on her Civic, Mom compared that to the way Dad would happily spend a day cleaning & polishing the wheels on his Porsche & she sees the same in me. Probably the best compliment she's paid me in a LOOONNGG time!!:) :miss , Dad!

I have a 13 yr old daughter who "those" boys dress like you said are starting to hang out at my house now since they like her.
I told one the other day don't come over until you know how to put your pants on right w/a belt. :D I told another boy he needs to help me detail so he can go out and buy pants that fit right. :ranton I think word is getting out how I feel about it. I know its their fad though. :rockin

as i was growing up i was forever perturbed with my father because he was never satisfied with what you could purchase. he always thought that he could modify it to make it work better. we lived on a farm and that meant a lot of trial an error. one year we were late planting corn because he bought a brand new pull type planter from john deere. when i got home from school he told me to start taking it apart right down to the corn planter units. he wanted to make a mounted planter instead of a pull type palnter. i did what he asked and we did get it done and the corn did grow and we live happily ever after. but for years i used that as a way to try and convey my frustration with my father.

almost thirty years later, i am working on the north slope of alaska visiting with a friend,in his room at the barracks at nite. he knew the whole story of the planter and my frustration with my father. as we were sitting in his room just passing time we started talking about a boat that i had purchased. it was for fishing off shore or inlet fishing. a quick out and back kind of boat. i like the configuration of the boat because it had a semi v front. did not like the canvas top that came with it because it was much to cold for my liking.

i then proceeded to tell him about all the major improvements that i was doing to make it more structurally sound to better able to carry all the fuel that i needed to make my river hunting trip for a moose humnt in september on the yukon river. i added a aluminum cabin plus a heater. then i added instruments that i wanted. then it was the seating arrangements and finally the fuel tank setup to better haul all the gasoline that was neede for a 400 mile trip one way.

well to make this shorter than it could be after telling him all about it my friend just smiled and looked at me for a moment and said,"hmmm, just like your dad did with the john deere planter".

that is the moment in my life that i realized that i was just like my dad.

the older i get the smarter my dad has become.

What a great story I in many ways do the things that my father did. I was only 19 when he left us at 50 I've lived more yearrs without him then with him. The funny thing is that both he and my mom who passed 10 years ago are always on my mind at some level.

I try hard to give my son the things that he taught me so that those can be passed along. The only thing that makes me smile these days is that I know my son will be just like me. He already is loves cars and rides one of the cleanest bicycles on the block!

He uses the S&W to clean and some times the P-w-C on the painted areas. :beer

Beemerboy,

thanks, i am glad that you liked it.

have been writing things often of my father these last few days. so your start of this thread was cathartic to say the least.

speaking of your young son also allows me to mention that my four year old helps detail my truck everyday. as we go to day care he points out all the silverado's and the colors to me. he also informs me if they are two door or four doors. plus he knows that all dodge's have hemi"s(according to him)and that ford's are nice trucks but that they do not fit him(cause that is what his daddy said).

he has not started on his bike yet but as soon as santa comes he will be washing it, with me and the silverado.
