I guess they come in pairs; 20 year old Mercedes.

Hey guys - another stout daily driver today. Kind of weird to have two relatively "old" cars in a row. This one is owned by one of the people in my building. She's the only one that never said "mine next", she just had me do it one day. Good for her, I say.

Car is a Mercedes 190E, couple hundred k on it, afaik never detailed but from what I can tell the front end was repainted (probably some time ago), there is some color mis-match and the paint re-acted a bit differently from the rear.

The paint on the car was very hard. The re-painted area was hard too, but not quite so much as the original. Overall paint thickness was good (roof was poor, rest was ok). Swirls were pretty bad, lot of deep marring especially on the hood, roof, and most of all the decklid (you'll see!).

Process was a bit weird for me, I will tell you after pics. :D

Here goes:

Yes, PC only. Why? My rotary won't spin. Something is up with it, it's on it's way to Makita for a repair. :(

Wow, nice turn around for only having a PC. :bigups

I've had my Makita since Christmas, how long did yours last before these issues??

Just over 9 years. :)

It's been super solid actually, I have no idea how many hours are on it. I actually bought it used when I got it too. It still works, the motor is fine but there is a bearing that has worn over the years so it won't turn the spindle. Makita told me it'll be a $35 fix. :2thumbs:

Wow, nice service after so many years of use.

I need to go check my warrenty on that thing.

Wow. Nice! I can see the paint mismatch. I believe I have the same color on my 20 year old W124. I guess I better go and get something a little stronger that Optimum Compound and also pick up a yellow pad lol before I start for the first time this spring with my new to me PC :D

Picus- Thanks for sharing this one! As a fan of both '80s Benzes and beater-details, I really enjoyed checking this out. What a great job! Especially impressive considering you were using the PC with (I suspect) ~6.5" pads.

Those pics under tha halogen light in the otherwise dark garage were good for showing the marring/not too :xyxthumbs

Yep, 6.5" pads; regular old concave Lake Country. It's been a long time since I did a multi-step polish with the PC. I'm feeling it today... :D

It's tough to get pics of marring on silver, that's why I didn't take many. I couldn't get anything to show up on the hood except a big blast of orange from the halogen. The garage itself is actually quite bright, but I guess taking a pic pointing at a halogen makes it seem dark.

Thanks guys.

Picus- Heh heh, if it's one thing I know it's how tough it is to see/photo marring on silver ;) I'm guessing your camera was on "auto exposure" and its attempt at compensating for the bright light just happened to work out great.

Heh heh#2 I bet you'll be counting the days until you get your makita back!

Haha ya Scott, you know what's funny? I mentioned it to her and she said "What? What paint mismatch?"... :D

Ya Accumulator, I leave it on auto all the time. It seems to get the job done. Oh, I got the Makita back today, I just took it to the local Makita repair place and he had it done in 5 hours. I just picked it up, only $35!
