I Give Up....Uncle!!

Just One More Coat
I post on a BMW site in the detail section..I try and answer the questions with the best advice I can. That said some people think my suggestions or advice are over the top crazy.

Example someone is asking about baked on brake dust removal..oven cleaner was suggested...I say NO and make a suggestion and I've got oven clearer guy telling me it works with no issue.

I made a suggestion about removing hard water spots on glass with 0000 steel wool then a chemical based polish...Then I'm shot down with the use of steel wool that would scratch the glass.

So in the end I've just decided that it's not worth the effort to try and make proven ( by my hands on experience) detailing advice.

Being we are both BimmerHeads ( Im Member # 164,648), we know that there are a lot of opinionated people there and even worse on the Porsche Forums.. :)

No matter what we tell some people, they will always think that since the world revolves around Them, no one else really matters or knows what they are talking about... :)

Lucky for us, we know better, and just have to take a deep breath, and say a little prayer for our brothers and sisters, and hope the best for them..

We are not trying to elevate ourselves above anyone - that is absolutely the worst thing we could ever do..

Instead we are just going to be there to help even when not listened to or appreciated, and hope for the best...

I thank you for all the time and effort you have personally put into just this one Forum ! Wow - 9,078 posts !!!

I gave up trying to give detailing advice on car forums. Everyone seemed to have their own opinion or thought you were crazy for spending time and money on products etc.

I only talk "detailing" on detailing forums where others understand our "obsession".

None of that really surprises me on online forums. I have been on a few forums for a variety of different things and as most of us here know there is something special here which makes other forums somewhat frustrating. I haven't been here long enough to feel qualified to say this and I don't know what to suggest on weather or not you should abandon giving advice there but I can say your opinions and advice are always welcome here. But even more so, thank you for everything you and the other members here have contributed and making newcomers feel welcome and eager to learn how to do things the right way.

The ony time it bothers me on the car boards is when the guys that have been using something forever, like zaino or Adams - and never tried anything different...tend to get insecure or something, if you post there is ANOTHER way ( not better). Then they become vicious, passive-aggressive and down right mean....and as I said, they have never tried what you are suggesting.....

Dave you did your best in showing them the proper way to detail and fix problems on their car's, and if they don't want to listen then the car's suffer it the most. I seen your many post's in helping but some morons don't care there or don't know any better. Keep up the great work!

There is a doctor on 6speed in the detailing form that send me a pm that if I used anything other than Zymol wax and pledge on the tires and wheels I am wasting time and money on an inferior appearance.

I wrote back thank you Doc. There is just not enought time to convince some people you have out your time in learning your stuff. The workout and nutrition boards are even worse.

I used to get very frustrated as well on different car and bike forums. I finally realized that I dont even care what they do to their vehicle. They aren't clients, they aren't close friends, and they sure as hell aren't competition. I'll still offer advise from time to time, but when oven cleaner guy starts getting their attention, I know its a lost cause and I go back to work and forget about it. I know that sounds kinda bad, but that's where I'm at with it these days.

From what I have seen is most car specific forums prefer to use only a certain brand and look down on others that use something else.

YEA but half of those 9000 post were arguing with me about guns. :rofl
Dave ole buddy don't let them get you down. I have spent thousands of hours studying motor oil but I see posts all the time about oil that is just flat out wrong but I just ignore it because when you argue with a fool they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Best to just move on.
Personally I never use a clay bar I prefer a sand blaster it works much faster.:D

That was a good run on the guns issue! ;)

Live and learn, we've all been through it. We're not trying to thump our chests to show how much we know, just trying to help someone.........but they know better. EXIT, STAGE LEFT! When you deal with the ignorant you lower yourself to the same level..........it just ain't worth it Bro!!!!!!

I have to agree with the population here. I think actions speak louder than words here. You car will look 100 times better that there's will all day long. Why is that? Because they don't listen. Just keep doing what you do Mr. Dave. Say that prayer, & keep on keepin on bro

Yeah I gave up giving advice on car forums. Whenever I recommend a product like Sonax wheel cleaner some guy always gets mad at my suggestion saying that I must work for Sonax for recommending such an expensive product. I then recommend a less expensive product like CG Diablo gel and get harrased saying I must work for them too. Then another member recommends mixing like 5 different chemicals used to clean bathrooms and kitchens and everyone agrees with that person.
