I don't get why people charge so little....

Before you decide to go out and detail the next gulfstream that comes your way, you need to take a 5th grade grammar and spelling lesson.

Enjoy your week!

you're seriously gonna criticize grammar and spelling on a forum? How boring.

No joke. It was interesting for a day or two but I got so tired of "reclamation systems" showing

up in threads about which polish was best.

so far im seeing if you charge less your a hack and are not qualify a autopian detailer and not just here. it does make sense you dont wanna spend 10-12(detailing) hrs on a vehicle at a rate of $10/hr. or less , but how can an inspiring detailer with the capability to achieve pro quality get more clientele or that type of clientele who doesnt mind paying at a rate of $45/hr?i think some charge cheap because there more into getting at least one customer and closing the deal.i have heard from some of my local pro detailers that when they started they were charging 50% off even free at some point just to get their name around and now they work at a rate of $65/hr of course it didn't happened over night.

I'm of the belief that you charge the going rate or higher if that is what you feel

you are worth. However, with that said you have to make a name for yourself

if you wish to make a living before you can charge, however unrealistically, what you

feel you are worth. Sometimes the bills come before your ego or pride. I do this

as a hobby for myself, my family, and my close friends. I don't do this as a

business but I used to have my own company in a different line of work

and know that sometimes you have to swallow your pride and do what it

takes to get dollars in the door even if it means taking a loss to get

word of mouth out. Down the

street from where I live there is a "detailing shop" that offers a wash, dry,

wax, interior vacuum, interior and tires dressed for $20. Every day I drive

by there and the staff working on the cars have one bucket, using one dirty

dry bath towel, one rotary with a yellow foam pad (I have never seen

a different color on the rotary there) being worked by guys that look

like they have to check into the local shelter in the next hour. And every

day I see cars being worked on which means that either they there are alot

of cheap people that don't care what there cars look like afterwards or they did a good enough job to get people in the door and

then up sell. Your first detail may be a freebie but if you do a great job

then it may turn into the $250 detail along with lots of references. Don't

knock the guy without knowing his story based on an ad in Craigslist. I was

a nightclub dj and I was the most expensive dj in the area. When I was looking

for a new gig, I would give my first night free to show the owner/manager

what talent was really about. At the end of the first night I always got the

gig and was able to charge what I felt I was worth. Whenever a dj came

in and tried to under cut me I would tell the owner fine let him spin one

night. If he is as good or better hire him but if you give him the chance

and you don't hire him my price goes up X amount. Did I lose some jobs?

Yes but word of mouth always kept my employed because I was good. Was

I a hack because I did the first night free? No. It was a way to open the door

and once in I could charge what I wanted.
