There is NO way in hell you could make any money off of that and I find it hilarious how they say they can remove ALL scratches.

If you look at the 2 photos of the wheel the caliper is on the left side of the 1st picture but on the right side in the 2nd photo... and there is compound on the rotor still.. that is why he can charge that!!!!

man he really messed up that last rim. I guess because the rust is gone and it shines it the sun that's all he feels he needs to do for that. owww. Unfortuantly this is far more common out there than people with actual skills. for every true professional out there detailing there are at least 10 guys like this.

I just bumped my Mini Detail price up from $135 to $150. This is a wash, shampoo, wax,vac etc. No Buffing! $69 bucks. Guy must be smoking something besides cigarettes. I'm with you gtpaul! Nothing less than $100

If you are mobile with a traditional rig, I can see why you would say that.

You have gas + time to get from job to job. Then you have to set up your wash mat + reclamation system. Perform the services, then break down the whole set up.

I operate 2 models. Mobile is a Water $mart Eco Detailing model. We do not have all that hassle of set up and break down. So we can get in and out very quickly. So we can set a minimum threshold a little lower. Maybe just a maintenance wax, or servicing a couple customers with multiple cars we do weekly on a Monthly Program.

We also offer fixed based locations. Because we do not have water bombs going off as we clean the car, we can set up in convenient locations, like outside an anchor store at the Mall. There we deliver the benefit of convenience, and do lots of Maintenance & Prevention Detailing. We have several packages to meet the customer's needs, and we do so profitably.

Just thought I would share some perspective on the topic.

Jim,

Don't think I buy your perspective. But, if you can make your margins with a $29 detail, more power to you! End of the day, many, most of the eco-detailers that push eco are those who have been sucked into franchise situations. They likely have zero previous detaling experience and are trying desperately to market their franchise brand. I venture to say your customer base - those shopping at the mall and expecting a quality detail in an hour's time - do not make up even a percentage of the client base of most Autopians.

If you were to stick a car you service weekly next to one of our weekly clients, or a weekly of most Autopians, I think you will find a number of defects and shortcuts resulting from your services. Not intending to put down what you do. You do what you do and will always have the customers who don't know any bettter. But, fact is; there likely are not many clients with a $200k Italian in their stable who would be comfortable watching some guy drag a dry MF towel across their baby.

Maybe I'm way off base. But, you seem to be trying to push your eco-friendly model into every post so, thought I would offer my two cents.

Finish Line, honestly, don't kid yourself. Most Autopians are enthusiasts or technicians … very few are good business people. Doesn't make them bas people, just IMHO a fact.

I will be sure to tell the owner of the CL 63 that comes to us twice a week and raves that some knuckle dragging Neanderthal of a detailer says that he is a moron.

The ink is not dry, when it is, I will announce several high line properties we have secured. And, guess what, you cannot be a white knuckled pressure washer to be even considered!

This summer you will see the rapid expansion of the Water $mart Eco Detailing model ... heard it here first. And it will not be the Detailer's choice, nor in many cases the property owner, home owner nor home owner's association's choice ... the government will mandate it.

I don't know where you are from, but someday, you too will have to change. Everyone will have to walk upright!

Heard it here first.

Well, Jim, all I can say is that you are very much the norm of your breed. When you feel your point of view has been challenged, your first line of defense is just that, defense. Roll into a ball, back into a corner and lash out. It's okay.

I'm sure that your big score of the SL63 is a monumental feat for you, good work!!! Having to pay a spot - and, be honest, we all know you are not there at no cost to you - at South Coast Plaza or Fascist Island, great for you!! We do not and will never pay for business!!

But, as previously mentioned, we have adopted means to address and conform to codes. You are doing so, it appears, due to the regulations you must adapt to. We, OTOH, have been using wash mats for over two years, with zero local regs requring us to. We have been tending to $40m aircraft for ages. For every one G-stream detailed by an Autopian, that detail has net more than you monthly gross. If that helps you sleep at night and wake happy to hop into you HHR, WooHoo!!!

Your franchise fee is going to support the fad established by the corporation sitting by the pool counting the fees you and others like you pay them to market their brand until the fad has come and gone. And, when that day arrives and you are at home cursing the existence of the guy down the street with his trailer correcting the finish of the SL63 you completely destroyed, shoot me a PM and I will come out and buy you lunch on my next rip home to hit tthe swell.

Enjoy your weekend!!

Drew,

That's great that you are controlling the contaminants. You are way ahead of the pack. And from a guy who wants to elevate this industry, thank you.

As far as the rest of your thinking ... I look forward to proving you wrong. Can't talk about them here, but if you would like to call me, I can share some stuff that I think you will quickly recognize you are just flat out wrong on.

For Detailing the G stream, absolutely, I agree ... have you been looking at my Business Plan?

Before you decide to go out and detail the next gulfstream that comes your way, you need to take a 5th grade grammar and spelling lesson.

Enjoy your week!
