I dont even know why I try to talk detailing on other forums......

This really is the only place I ever want to talk detailing stuff with complete strangers. On other sites it can get pretty bad especially when you encounter "pros" that are absolutely set in place that their methods are the only way and if you do it differently youre an idiot. I try to respect everyone and their opinions. But when i offer help to someone that says they need it, then get flamed/bashed for it, it turns me off on ever offering advice again. But i like to help people and get them to think outside the box a bit.

Example on other said forum a guy absolutely refused to believe that only DA style polishers can be used on paint. That rotary's only cause deep swirling and will always damage paint.....

All right. Well I tried to explain how I use a rotary on 90% of the jobs i do and I showed pictures, detailed accounts of how/what materials I use. You wouldnt even believe the responses I got!

Then they ended up suspending my account on top of it! I never called names or told them they were wrong. I was just trying to convey my honest opinion on something Im pretty familiar with, or at least I think I am. They said they suspended my account because I was "advertising" on their forum. :lol2: ok--I guess if you arent a long time forum member of this place then you cant offer suggestions on trying new things!

Sorry for the book long rant, but I'm here to stay because at least here, you can get multiple view points from all ranges of people and not have to put your flame suit on. Same with the new guys joining every day, one might ask a "dumb" question, but everyone here responds respectfully.

So thanks TID/autopia forums for being the best automotive detailing forum :)

Hey Michael

It's their lost and our gain.............:autopia:

I know exactly what you mean. At one time, I would try to offer advise or suggest someone try a product, and the responses were much like what you described. On any vehicle related forum, there are always going to be the guys with 18,000 posts who think they rule the forum, and everything that spews out of their mouths (or fingers in this case) is the word of God...period. Anymore, I just sit back and listen to them complain about how the oven cleaner ruined their wheels, how Ajax is the best tire cleaner on the planet, and how amazing Turtle Wax Black Box is. Honestly I could care less what they do to their cars if they are that close minded to what someone with years of REAL experience has to offer them.

Very true on car specific forums as some self-appointed policeman. This also applies to sponsored forums where only the party line is tolerated. But even some detailing forums have self-appointed policeman. For example, I know one who refuses to acknowledge that no professional (meaning someone who wants top results) would ever use a sponge.

Ha well one thing, that Turtle wax black box actually made my truck look better! Its been the only thing so far that has worked. I have a 97 explorer, black (obviously!) but like most 90's ford black paint jobs the base coat started to crack under the clear, which reveals the primer to show through.
I thought I had a picture on here but I dont.

Well anyways I tried polishing, that was a huge mistake it just made them come through even more :( So while at advanced auto parts the other day i said what the hell it cant hurt. I machine applied the two steps, then followed up with opti-seal, bfwd and well my truck hasnt looked this good in a couple of years! Basically the thick black dye covered it up, its by no means a permanent thing. The only way to actually fix this issue is stripping the truck to the metal and repainting. Which I wont ever do, or another is wrapping the truck in satin black vinyl which i would consider :)

Hey Michael Glissman !

I remember you from perhaps a couple of Forums back - a few years ago! Believe you were on Truth in Detailing last time I saw your posts. You had some health challenges, and bounced back, and then TID went down and everyone was scattered.
Glad to see you back and that you have your business going !!!

This IS a great place because of the awesome sponsors and a few of the TID people migrated over and they have brought that excellent spirit of cooperation that made TID such a great place to be on.

Hope to hear more from you soon, Michael, glad you are back here now!

Thanks Dan!
A little over a year ago I was in the hospital for about 5wks with serious pancreatitis. In all reality I shouldnt be here now! But Im glad I am :) TID was great and this place is just as great! Its nice to be back on such a great forum where people can share their opinions without being ridiculed.

But here are a couple pix of my truck before/afters

This is after one pass of the black box, I ended up doing two, then the rest as stated above. Not perfect by any means but better and not as noticeable!

That looks pretty darn good. Ive got a friend who swears by it, and will push it to everybody he talks to. I buffed and polished on his black Avalanche for 6 hours about a month ago, and he sent me a pic 3 days later and said "You done a good job on my truck. I went back over with some Black Box after you left and now look at it". I could have gagged him because I know he did it just to mess with me lol.

I will usually make my presence as a detailer known, but will only give advice if directly prompted for it. I find that most people (there are exceptions) simply find the technical detailing perspective to be unnecessary and do not care for it. Where I consider a 'quick detail' to only take up an entire day, most tend to think an hour or two is sufficient.

Their loss!

My quick details are taking longer and longer, I can't do it in an hour and a half. :bigups

Well the forum I was on, a guy had a camaro that was black with vinyl silver stripes. Long story short the dealer screwed up the paint bad, then tried to tell the poor guy black cars are never perfect and always have swirls in them.......sounds like the dealers around my parts too!

The detailing advice I gave him, since he never worked with any detail stuff other than hand waxing his cars and he sounded hesitant on buying detail stuff. I told him to go see Eric with Tru-Shine, since he was only about 2hrs from him ;) I said your car will be better than new. He informed we at that point he ordered a whole detailing kit (from a company I never heard of, if mods say its ok I will post that companies name...)

Today this guy posted pics of the before/after of just the hood. It seems like he is doing an all right job, just using a PC. He talked about how long it was going to take him...one of the guys on there said it should take him 10-14days to complete :(

As for the black box stuff, I am doing my moms car this week. She has a black 06 330ci, lots of light swirls in it. I plan on taking tons of before/after pics. If it works well, Im considering offering it to people that want some swirls removed but dont want to pay my pricing for a full correction. Obviously id be very straight up with them about what exactly i would do. I applied the two steps with my PC, and used the spray detailer to wipe off each "coat"

Welcome back Michael :) The great thing about this forum is your allowed to talk about just about any product you want. The members here will offer help or advice if you ask or are needing it but don't try to ram it down your throat and then flame you if you find something that works better for you. There are no self made policemen here which is a real plus. :autopia:

I agree with the posts. This a great place to discuss all things. Even as a pro I've learned new things and step outside the box. We have a great crowd. If your trying something out at least you get a "why" if there is another opinion.

Dealing with car clubs can be like forums. There is always someone who "leads" sidetracking your process/products.
