i did something I did not do in 5 yrs

My girlsfriend got her car back from the bodyshop and there was a significant amount of orange peel still over the passenger side mirror, so I decided to wet sand with some 2000 and then use 3m rubbing compound with the rotary. It looked good but I missed a small corner and did it again only that this time I burned the fresh paint. I feel like a complete fool now taking it back to my body shop who recommends me to many of his customers b/c he does not bother with detailing. I know mistakes happen but I feel like I should have know better. Sorry about the rant.

The thing is that I did not even burn paint this bad when I was training how to use the machine. But I guess I will continue to be honest as I always have been and move on like Jimmy said. Thanks for the words of wisdom

Yeah, shops are pretty understanding when you screw something up *while fixing their mistake*. Heh heh, take a guess how I know :o

eek...detailer burning paint...thats not supposed to happen. I would work on some crap bodypanels off junkyard cars untill you get the hang of that machine. so you dont accidently do that again.

I just finished painting the panal at my buddies body shop and all is well, as for me burning the paint here is what I wont do again, I wont use an agressive pad on fresh paint at 1 am. From now on I will be less anal and wait until I am totally awake and not half asleep when using a rotary. As for rotary usage I worked on a car today and it worked out fine, of course for extra perfection I dont just use a rotary I always follow-up with my pc. Also just for clarification I only use a rotary when cars are really messed up.
