I DESPISE Vinylex >:| what other interior cleaners?

I used to use Einszett© Cockpit Premium found here http://www.parts4vws.com/catalog/product_detail.asp?PartNumber=EZ924510

on my 02 Volkswagen GTI...

but I'm not sure how much it protects from UV, heat and sun? It cleans great... smells great... works on everything! and it leaves a nice matte finish... like you never applied anything at all. Even if you accidently get overspray on glass.

Well since I wasnt sure about the UV protection it offered... I used vinylex yesterday. To me... its greasy, its WAY WAY WAY too shiney.... on soft touch plastics etc... it remained streaky/spotty and left dark almost discolored spots... a severe buffing smoothed most of that out... but its still there, especially if you happen to touch anything. It left shiney marks everywhere it touched (ie where I accidently touched my leather recaros) and even though I buffed it with a soft cloth afterwards.... I still get greasy stuff on my hands if I touch anything.

not only that... it turned the dash and everything I applied it to very dark and unaturally shiney... so now my steering wheel has this really really dark dark plasticy shine everywhere except the rim itself... which is leather, and much much lighter. It looks like @ss like that. the leather inserts in the doors and my seats are a much lighter black as well... stands out like a sore thumb

Is there ANY cleaner/protectant out there that does a good job of lifting dirt etc and offers good UY and sun protection that doesnt leave a nasty plastic like shine and turn all my dash 10 shades darker than it should be?

Does the pinnacle cleaner and protectant (seperate bottles) work?? I really want a nice matte finish. Or even satin finish... but i'm not sure how shiney 'satin' would be..... Or does anyone know the protective properties of the Einszett premium??

303 sounds like the product for you. Also, do a search for 303, there are many threads discussing this product.

303 is alot less glossy than Vinylex, which I also do not like on my dash. But some dashes are gonna gloss up no matter what you use.

Do a search for Yo Steve and Black Magic. He has a Passat and found a protectant that he really liked. My brother has two VW's and the dash texture is alot different than other cars so it seems to need something unique to look good.

As for cleaning the dash, you can use a diluted version of most vinyl cleaners. On my car there was some super-glossy silicone crap that needed EFHI full strength to remove. So you might need something with some kick to take off the Vinylex.

Also...

do you use it on plastics?? IE the soft touch trims, plastic trim around the switch gear, the switch gear itself, plastic skirts on the seats, door handles etc etc??

or should you just apply it on the vinyl?

I too have a new Passat and have used 303 with great success. I spray it on the dash, door panels, plastics (around door handles, window buttons, etc.) and have NO problems with it. It leaves a very matte finish, no shine or greasy residue. Just spray it on, work it in with a MF, and do a final buff... No sweat.

Sounds to me like you used WAY too much vinylex.

From the looks of things, I would have to concur. Also, it's a probability that you might have let it sit and never buffed it off.

Cut the Vinlex down. 25% Vinylex 75% distilled water.

Wash the parts with a solution of dawn to get it clean (vinyl, maybe cleared leather.) Then use the watered mdown Vinylex, or 303, or Steve's favorite, Black Magic Citrius matte dressing.

uhmmm...

no trust me.. I didnt use too much and yes I buffed it afterwards (as said in my previous post)

I used a ziano terry cloth applicator pad... did two light sprays on the pad... and used that till it ran dry... then did a single light spray each time after that. I never spray on the car directly.

Then I got a huge 24x36 soft polishing cloth and buffed the snot out of everything.

cool...

thanks guys! I'll try some 303

I did just finish going over the dash really good with a MF scrubber towel and my Einszett cleaner and it wiped out most of the vinylex... although a bit streaky in spots. I'm washing the towel out and with another good scrubbing it should all be gone.

I just wish I knew if that stuff had any UV protectant capabilities to it?? I really love the stuff... smells like lemons :)

Also try the new eagle 1 interior exterior protectant which is water based.

The Black magic semi gloss dashboard protectant is pretty good stuff.

Sometimes I will use the Zaino leather in a bottle on the dash and other plastic parts....I kinda like it and the smell.

Meguiars #40 worked well for me, I put it on like you described, by spraying on the applicator. A little wiping it off after and a nice looking dash resulted.

mb, good to see ya again

Black Magic Semi-Gloss, I like it a lot!

BTW, do not skimp on the application of this stuff. Apply a good amount and wet the surface with a small foam applicator (no cotton, but you can use microfiber). It may look super wet upon application but it will dry to a matte black finish that is awesome.

Then clean off the Vinylex before adding 303. It will shine if you add 303 on top of another product.

303 also has the highest advertized UV protection.

I'll add my vote for Meguiars #40, too. Works very well for me on my Taurus and my wife's Escape.
