and i purchased some DACP (#83), and some #9 this afternoon. i also got some viper MF towels and terry cloths. i already had some colorx and tech wax at home. i know some people use glazes and other products when doing this process, but i wanted to only use stuff that i could get locally. the problem with ordering stuff for me is that once it's run out, i'll never see the use in buying it again, no matter what it be. anyway, i went home and decided i would do only one half of the hood. it's a good thing that this is all i wanted to do, because this alone took me two hours! i don't know how scottwax does this on a full car in 3 hours!
well not until i was finished did i realize just how HORRIBLE my swirl marks and light scratches were. i DACP'd the heck out of half of the hood. i was exhausted and felt like i had just run a marathon after i only did a portion of half of the hood. this is a LOT of work. then i proceeded to use the #9 to clear up any swirls or scratches the DACP may have made.
by the time i was finished with just the DACP, i could definitely see a difference between the sides of the hood. it's pretty remarkable. i wasn't expecting a perfect finish on the side i was working with, but i was expecting it to look much better; and it indeed was.
after i used DACP (i even used it twice in a couple of really bad places) and the #9, i went to colorx. i just applied one coat of the colorx on the half of the hood. it was night time by this point, and i really wasn't concerned with how shiny my car was going to look since i knew how the nxt made my car look previously; i was concerned with the swirls.
after the colorx, i used just one coat of tech wax. while the tech wax was drying, i DACP'd the passenger fender. that wore me out. i can only do half a hood in a day apparently. so then i got the tech wax off and i was finished for the night. i drove up to the local HEB where i usually fear parking my car because of all of the bright lights that shine down and show off all of those fancy swirl marks and scratches, and i was quite impressed! not all of the light scratches were gone, and if you looked hard enough you could see a few swirls, but when you looked at the other side of the hood: WOW, what a difference!
just wanted to share that this is the ultimate non-machine way to get out swirls and scratches. i have no detailing experience, and i'm very impressed with how well i did in this process. would you guys be interested in pictures? if so, i will try and get some up tomorrow.
