I Actually Washed My Truck

Hey guys, it's been FOREVER since I've posted here (I'll be a Junior at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt this Fall, and ever since I got there I haven't had time for much else, including sleep) ,but I actually got out and washed my truck yesterday and wanted to share a couple of pics of it with ya'll. The cleaning regimen was:

Tires: Tide powder with scrub brush

Rims: P21s Gel followed with Dawn and then Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish

Exhaust: Dawn followed with Eagle One Nevrdull

Truck: Pinnacle Bodywork Shampoo and spot clayed

If there's any other questions feel free to ask.

I feel your pain. My car was dirty for nearly 3 weeks before I had time to wash it.

Nice truck, bet it is a blast to drive. :)

I can find time for other people's cars but not mine. Its so fustrating

Looking good! Is it a auto or stick, how is it as a grocery getter? I am thinking about that or a Range Rover Sport. Obviously that is much faster and sexier. Looks wet with no polishing or sealing stage, I would maybe hold off on the dawn wash though, just seal the wheels and they should clean up real nice.

Ha, about how can I afford it as a student, the truck was a graduation gift from my dad. He's got a little money, but nothing compared to what some students at Vanderbilt have. Supposedly Vanderbilt is the richest campus in the nation in terms of the wealth of its students' families. I had a floormate my freshman yeah whose dad was purportedly worth hundreds of millions of dollars. The kid had a plasma screen tv in his dorm room and would buy his girlfriend like 8000 dollar bracelets on a whim, but I'm sort of venturing off topic here. The reason I titled it "I Actually Washed My

Truck" is it had been over a year since it had last been washed. I guess you could accurately describe it as a Garage Queen. I don't take it up to Vandy with me, and it's about a year and a half old with like 620 miles, and I don't drive it in the rain or anything either. I use Dawn on the wheels to help cut through the all the brake dust as I wash w/e wheel "cleaner" I'm using off. It's got great lubricity and I can use oodles and oodles of it without having to go spend 20 bucks to buy a new bottle unlike most Bodywork Shampoos, and since I'm just adding back any oils I stripped off back on with a polish, I don't see why it hurts to use it. The truck is an auto. To my knowledge I think the only way you can get a stick is if you go with the Regular Cab. It's faster, but the reason I went with the Quad Cab is it can actually hold some people if I want to, plus it's actually designed to be able to tow stuff whereas the Regular Cab, in disagreement to how Dodge promoted it, I viewed as a toy truck. It'll most certainly hold any groceries you wanna put in it, although as you guessed, the gas mileage isn't too hot. I get around 8.5 miles a gallon in my small home town, and that's pretty much coastin it most places. The only other slight dissatifaction I have with the truck is the lights aren't too hot in terms of effectiveness, but they probably fixed that with the redesign, although I don't like the new grill or interior of the new one as much as I do mine.

Just throw some HID's in it.

Yeah, seriously if you just clean them once and seal them, you won't need to use the Dawn OR a wheel cleaner. Any car soap will do.

Aren't those wheels clearcoated?

Tide powder...why don't you use something like a diluted APC instead? It would be more effective in cleaning road grime from tires, and probably costs less per application than your laundry detergent.

I've thought about sealing them a couple of times, but that's a pretty involved process, and with about the same amount of time I can clean them the way I do and know they're as shiny as they can possibly be. I don't THINK they're clearcoated. When I touch the wheel it feels as though I'm actually feeling the aluminum. I've also considered cleaning the wheels with an APC too, but it takes less than one cup to clean the tires with the tide, and I have to say it does a pretty darn good job. You just shake a little powder on an oxo scrub brush, rub it around a wet tire, and it's like toothpaste... for your tire. Oh, and I also thought of another thing about the truck that bugs me. That truck has the softest clearcoat I've ever seen. On those small spots I clayed, it sort of left teeny swirl circles, and I know how to properly clay and haven't ever experienced that cleaning my dad's Mercedes or Ford truck, so I know it's not poor technique. If it actually got significatnly dirty and the whole truck needed to be clayed, it would definitely require a swirl remover afterward.
