Hypthetical question...

DaGonz

Autopia fire/rescue.
An EMT I know from Rhode Island asked me hypothetically what it would it cost to detail the following fleet of vehicles..

2 Type 1 amblances

4 Type 2 ambulances

16 Type 3 amblnaces

21 wheelchair vans

1 Hummer

1 Ford Expedition

1 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The ambulance classes are as follows...

Type I Ambulances are based on the chassis-cabs of light duty pickup-trucks.

Type II Ambulances are based in modern passenger/cargo vans.

Type III Ambulances are based on chassis-cabs of light duty vans.

Extreme Duty versions of both Type I and Type II are also now authorized based on the chassis-cabs of medium duty truck chassis.

The ambulances (or "bone boxes", as they are called here in the Northeast and "busses" in the New York/New Jersey area) would be have the exteriors and cab areas detailed only. The patient areas are always cleaned and disinfected after every bone box run.

The wheelchair vans and the passenger vehicles wouldl be complete interior/exterior details.

How much would you charge to detail the fleet?

I would do it super cheap and tell him that in return, if anything ever happens to me or my family then we are priority and get free rides. lol

Is this a private or State owned company? Why is the EMT asking you for a estimate? Is this a one time detail? What are the time restraints, when and how many can you do at one time? Private and State agency need to budget for expenses or increase a budget. When you start to bid fleet accounts they ask for Insurance riders and workmans comp, etc. If your legit then it’s a good thing. If it’s State, then they will need 3 quotes, but since your 1st in then you can write the spec’s. That can be good or bad. If you’re a hour short per vehicle it could add up to enormous a loss. Worse thing you can do is shoot from the hip with a quick estimate.

It is a privately owned ambulance service. If it were a third party municipal, governmental or Fire Department based EMS service, the employees would be cleaning and detailing the rigs between calls ( Bunker and Patrick Holland will attest to this, right Brothers?) ;) :D

I was reached and asked this question through a firefiighter website on which I am a moderator and part of the board of trustees.

The person who asked this was just curious, that's all. :werd:

So... what would you charge to do the fleet? Let's assume it's going to be a "once a year full tilt boogie" type of detail, let's say in the spring after a typical New England winter.

What does your detailing process entail? Swirl removal? Clay?

Whatever you would do in your detailing process!

Washing, road tar removal, claying to remove surface contaminants, paint defect correction, polishing and using a quality sealant as an LSP for exterior paintwork.

Thorough cleaning of the tires, wheels and wheel wells, dressing same.

Interior vacuuming, cleaning and dressing of all plastic and vinyl surfaces, with the exception of the seats, flooring and pedals.

Glass cleaning and polishing.

One would think that I asked the President for the nuclear launch codes!

2 Type 1 amblances 500X2=1000

4 Type 2 ambulances 400x4=800

16 Type 3 amblnaces 300X16=4800

21 wheelchair vans 250x21=5250

1 Hummer 250

1 Ford Expedition 250

1 Jeep Grand Cherokee. 200

total 12550 or 275 per unit

do you need a hand????

PS I don't see anyone doing this as private ambulance companies are tighter with thier money then everyone else and I know i had to wax many a rig when i worked for the ones i did work at(it sounds funny i know but you get what i'm saying)

Details would be wash polish wax and dress spot claying for tar and other stuff. and leather/vinyl/rubber protecting stay way from the back as it could be a HAZMAT deal..

I came out at $12.8K

The EMT who asked me said that his company hired a brother firefighter from Pawtucket to detail the fleet. His boss told him it was an average of $300 a rig.
