how to wash a pad properly

Hi guys, I was wondering if I should wash the pads by hand in the sink, or if I should throw them in the washing machine....if I wash them in the sink, can I just use some regular soap to wash them with or do I need something special, thanks
 
Depends also on the type of pad. I have Sonus SFX pads for my PC, and no matter how hard I try, those things will never look like new again, it's simply impossible to flush any evidence of them being used out. My buddy used SSR 1 (the pink stuff) on my white SFX pad, and now it's bright pink even though it was washed thoroughly. So don't get discouraged if it doesn't LOOK 100% clean.
 
Yea as long as they arent contaminated from debris and dried polish, they should be clean but looking a 100% new isnt going to happen. I usually spray liberally a strong APC the use the hose on "high pressure jet setting" to blast away the polish. Then rinse twice and shake the remaining water out of the pad as much as I can. Put them on a shelf to let dry.
 
I soak in a bucket with diluted Dawn or APC until job is done.



Then I do a hand wash in sink or bucket with Dawn, APC or DP Pad cleaner.



I think I can do a bette job by hand than in washing machine as I kind of knead the pad to clean. Also worried that machine might cause damage, but other Autopians report good results by machine.
 
I let mine soak in the sink with warm water and Dawn. Later, I scrub with fingers, rinse well with cold water, gently squeeze water out, and put on self to dry.
 
I rinse out with Simple Green then sometimes leave for a few hours in a water & Sonus Wunder Wasche mix. Dawn works well as noted above.



The mf detergents seem to be really excellent and I like the dual use.
 
I clean my Sonus pads in a bucket with dawn, rinse several times, then I put them on my PC at 3 setting and spin them dry. I set it at 5 once and spun the pad off.
 
I was in the same boat awhile back, this is what I do now...

use an apc, simpel green, etc and sprya heavily, let it set for a few minutes. Rinse and squeeze as much gunk out as I can. Tehn let soak what usually turns into overnight, at least few hours in a bucket of hot water with Tide. Rinse again, soak again, lots of final rinsing a few days later. Air dry after shaking, putting on PC to sling excess water out, and pressure by hand with towels.

Now this might be overkill and I could get away with one overnight soaking of detergent, but why not be safe.
 
I have been using pads purchased from Meguiars and CMA for probably a little over 3 years now and have yet to have one fail. I generally take them to the kitchen sink, run it under the faucet with warm water to get it wet and then rub in dawn and work it in with my fingers so that it gets worked all the way through the pad. I then rinse and wring it dry and put them out to air dry. I doubt this is the "best" way but it has worked for me for 3 years now.

Exactly what I do and my pads are fine after almost 4 years.

Jeez, I used one Meguiars pad for only an hour and the backing velcro pad came off!



Anyways, has anyone ever washed their Meguiars pads? It says not to...butttt..
