How to remove wheel paint without hurting OEM paint underneath?

Hi, I just got a set of wheels...but they were painted pretty unprofessionally a gunmetal color. I noticed that underneath the paint (the guy missed some under the centercap) the OEM silver wheel paint was still intact.

I was wondering if there's any way I can remove this layer of gunmetal paint without harming the stock wheel paint and clearcoat underneath it. Any suggestions? I was thinking of using paint thinner or acetone...?

Thanks.

anyone? i heard on another forum maybe soaking in paint thinner for a day and then washing it off real hard might work...

Paint thinner + a very fine cut steel wool would work.

If it were me though, I would just sand them down and get them powdercoated or somethin like that.

steel wool huh? any chance a common scouring pad or soft toothbrush could work? lol...i'm not too familiar with how to get steel wool and how its classified
