How to remove whatever the dealer put on my wind shield

I have an 09 Pontiac G8, the first few months I enjoyed the rain x/aqua-pel like chemical that was on my wind shield, it repelled rain well and kept the wipers from chattering...now it doesn't work so well and it makes it a horror to try and see out of at night. First I tried a white and orange pad on my pc with duragloss nu-glass but when I wiped it off and sprayed water on the car I can clearly see where the wipers move on the wind shield sheeting differently then the rest of the wind shield. I then tried an ipa wipe down and that seems to not have done anything either...should I use a really harsh pad like a yellow pad and maybe a compound to clean everything off?

First of all, I don't think the dealer bothered to put anything on your windshield. I think you were "enjoying" the "new car and new glass" that your dealer gave you.

Second, I suspect that Nu-Glass is similar to the Zaino glass polish, which I haven't had a lot of success with. I have an old bottle of Black Flag or Black Magic or something glass polish which smells like metal polish, and it works pretty well. So if you have some metal polish you could try that, they are supposed to have similar ingredients. Or sure, yellow pad and (light) compound, I've done that too, which brings me to...

Third, glass doesn't seem to be glass any more...seems to scratch really easy, so be careful!

I too think you may just be experiencing "fresh" glass. I have had great results with NuGlass, follow it up with a spray sealant or QD and see if it changes anything

However, if you have confirmation that something was in fact applied to the windshield, I think that Aquapel or Rain Science(or something similar in name) makes a product to prep for application of the repellent. I have seen it in Autozone and other similar stores. Try that and apply a QD or spray sealant to see if that sorts out the issues. Good luck, Clear vision is serious when its raining.

I don't mean to potentially state the obvious, but have you tried a wipe down on the inside side of the glass?

The materials used for the dash and interiors of new cars can off-gas quite a bit in the first few months of life, especially considering that in your case those few months have been through the summer heat.

Every new car I've owned, or had experience with, has hazed the inside of the windshield really badly during that first summer season.

I clean my inside window every week when I wash my car.

What I noticed is the water sheeted beautifully the first few months...it would sheet like I had rain-x on it, would barely have to use the wipers. But recently I can see the water basically splash when it hits the glass and the when the wipers wipe I looks incredibly streaky.

I don't know...I never had this issue with my two other new cars (Subaru WRX and a Mitsubishi Evo)...G8 is the first car Ive noticed where it looks really smeared up and streaky when the wipers wipe without me putting anything on it.

Don't you be smellin' no old cans of Black Flag, Setec, That's an insecticide.

Since you enjoyed the results for the 1st few months why not apply Rain X to it again(assuming thats what it was)? Its supposed to be applied monthly. Following the directions is crucial. Esp after applying it, buff immediately with a damp towel which activates the Rain X.

I had a similiar experience to yours when I applied the Rain X incorrectly. Letting it sit to long and not using a wet towel to remove.

i know this is probably just a stupid question, but have you tried cleaning/replacing you wiper blades? my first thought is that if smears when you turn on the wipers and you have thoroughly cleaned the glass, is that the blades have become contaminated. might be the simplest thing to try next. good luck.

I polished the glass with a compound and put rain x on it, also took the rain x wipes and cleaned the wipers...I guess Ill see how that works out for now.

I just didn't get why I can see where the wipers pass sheet differently then the rest of the glass after I polished it a few times...I figured I should have an even surface now unless my wiper blades somehow etched the glass this quickly.

Maybe try alchohol or paint thinner on a rag first.

Close dude. :)

I was taught from a great painting guy in the area to use Denatued Alchohol on winshineds...I love it...Cleans and that is all I use..

I have tried the brake clean, throttle body cleaner etc and Denatured wins.

Wouldn't some thing like KAIO ( or simalar chem clearer) be able to take off what ever is on the glass.

FWIW I used KAIO on the inside glass of my friends 06 Mustang gt. Nothing else would remove the vinyl haze from glass.
