How to remove holograms theoretically

Hello.

I don't have at my dispozal Zymol, Poorboys, MEguiar's or whatever products that you all recomend, I only have Automagic products.

I have some holograms on my car made by me :( .

Now I have to remove them. I have 1 wool pad, 1 medium cut pad, 1 lightcut pad, 1 fine pad all from Automagic.

I have also New Car Glaze, Magic Glaze, XP Swirl remover, also from AM>

NOw, how can I get rid of the holograms?

Unless you have a lot of experience, I don't recommend trying to finish with a rotary - you're gonna need a PC or a Cyclo; what product and pad combo will be required to remove the halograms is 100% dependent upon how deep the halograms are (and of course the color of the paint, as dark colors are much more sensative).

What color is your car and what process/products did you use to get them in there?

My car is black

It was my second attempt to do my car.

It is a black 2004 Peugeot 307.

I used a wool pad with New Car Glaze wich is a mild polish (don't think it's a glaze) at speed about 1600 rpm-1800rpm (Automagic's site)

Then a medium cut pad 1500 rpm also with New Car Glaze.

Then a light cut polishing pad at 1500 rpm with Magic Glaze.

Then paint sealant Awesome Gloss.

I don't have any PC, Cyclo or whatever. Only my polisher and my bare hands :(

Hello,

First mistake....wool pad and too high RPM. It should have been the LEAST abrasive/aggressive pad/product combo first.

I don't use AM products so I'm useless in telling you what products to use and how but I can tell you that you want to reduce your rpm's down to 1100 - 1000 for your final step AND the finer the pad/product the fewer the swirls. So you may need a 100 ppi pad and then AM's finest polish and reduce your rpm's to 1000.

Ok, I will try to use the green pad with XP Swirl remover at 1000-1200 rpm. And see what's happen.

I also have a problem with the car front panel. This was the battlefield for me to try the polishes. I know that is bad. very bad thing to do. But now I have some swirls that I cannot remove even with wool and New Car Glaze. What should I do?

Again, go with a polishing pad and the least abrasive product first. Keep stepping up if you need to. Always test with the least aggresive, not the other way around. It's likely that you are just instilling more swirls by continually using your more aggresive products with a wool pad.

I agree - I'm sure you are simply instilling more swirls. I don't care what polish you use, if you use wool on a black vehicle, you are going to get swirls, and lots of them. I think you might be able to reduce the swirls by going with softer pads, pressure, and polish...but I still think you're gonn have to fork out dough for a PC if you want a halogram-free car (it is sometimes very difficult for those of us with thousands of hours of rotary experience to finish down halogram-free on black). Personally, I'd rather just grab the PC and be sure about it than play around with "feathering" rotary and hope it's halogram-free.

I tryied to remove the holograms and I did it! I used a green foam pad with XP Swirl Remover Automagic and I removed them about 95%. I will not try to remove the 5%, because I can barely see them and I can live with that. In about 4 months I will do a maintance detail and hopefully they will disapear then.

Thank you for your answers! It was helpfull.

So again: I should not use wool on clearcoated black. But I can use them on other bright colors. Use max 1600 rpm, moderate pressure. Follow with foam pads with less agressive polishes, at even slower rpm. Got it.

Sure. But I rarely find the need for wool - it is extremely aggressive.
