Suggestive selling! Of course, our version of "do you want fries with that?" is more profitable.
Cloudy, ugly day with a chance of rain so my morning customers (straight wash jobs) decided to hold off until next week but my afternoon customer told me to go ahead and come on out. I had finished washing her Escalade ESV and told her I had some extra time so if she wanted, I had a nice beauty wax I could use on her truck (Souveran, of course). She said "didn't you polish and wax it about 6 weeks ago?" and I told her I had and her truck still looked really good, but with this wax, her paint would look wetter than anyone else's in Monticello Estates (her subdivision). I casually mentioned the jar of wax was $70 and I would through on a coat for $30 more. She smiled and said to go ahead.
Easy 30 minutes to apply and remove Souveran, even on an Escalade ESV. Even though I had polished and waxed it in early July with #80 and EX, adding a layer of Souveran gave instant depth and wetness to the paint, very noticable going from one panel to the other. It was almost surreal, since her truck looked really good as it was but Souveran took it to the next level.
When I finished, I had her come out and look before I put it back in her garage. When she saw her Escalade, her jaw almost dropped! She said something like 'it was so shiny before, now it looks shiny and wet". She then gave me the check and a $10 bill as a tip.
I am telling you all now, if you don't upsell to your customers, you are losing out. Stuff like a carnauba topper in between regular wax jobs can really add to the bottom line and don't take much time. Mini interior details between full details can also add up. Keep track of when each customer's last major job was so you can keep them on schedule for the next one. The worst the customer can say is no. But look at what you gain when they say yes! More money in your pocket, your customer's car looks great and their next weekly wash will be that much easier with a fresh coat of wax.
