How to hide metallic flakes

My car has a black mica paint and when it came from the showroom the black color is just plain black without any visible metallic flakes.. Now as I wash/polish/wax it with mothers , nxt , putting on oos, ocw and collinites, m205 , etc I never regained that first day look where it was just plain black and shiny without the metallic flakes... Is there any product I can use to regain that original look back ?

I don't understand why you would want to do that. If you don't like the color take it back. Otherwise get a great sealant or wax that is going to express the flake and make it pop!

From the showroom it was prolly oxidized a bit and hazed from them wiping it down .. all you have done is cleaned it up to where it was supposed to be .. for the better.

One of the reasons why I used 476S on my pals '60 Jag was to do sorta that kind of thing; it's repainted with b/c and the combination of "clearcoat look" and metallic can be a bit much, not period-correct looking. I finish polished with M205, used Autoglym SRP (which I kinda saw as a possible step backwards, what with the SRP's fillers/etc.), topped with 476S. Worked pretty well; looked good but not "like a new Toyota". (BTW, that was the combo that an "expert" thought was DodoJuice.)

When the prep on my Carbon Metallic Yukon was less-than-perfect, the 476S seemed to mute the flake quite a bit. I thought it was just the wax, but after I repolished it the flake really popped with the same 476S. Soo....depending on how you do the prep, IME 476S can make such stuff more/less obvious to an extent I don't notice with other LSPs.

Maybe try using stuff that's supposed to be good for "depth" and "darkening".

I guess I'm bored with the flakes... I want to see dark solid black...

Thanks accumulator... Can you recommend any product that deepens and darken ?

A friend suggested to use glaze (show car glaze) and top with wax (p21s) will this do the trick ?

That glaze, topped with the right stuff, might do a little of what you're after, can't say for sure though as it's mighty oily and that might not be right for this.

Whatever glaze the dealer used to prep my Yukon (Hendrick Lexus, Charlotte NC), that stuff *really* muted the flake. Probably from all the fillers. I think that the more "thick stuff" that gets between the paint and your eyes, the better for this. That's why I chose SRP for my pal's Jag.

I wouldn't try P21s though, as it's a "bright, reflective" wax and IMO that's the opposite of what you want. For a quick OTC option, you could try Meg's #26.

But don't be *too* disappointed if the car's simply now "too nicely detailed" for the flake to look as muted as you'd like.

I think if you do find something to mask the flake you will revert back to wanting the flake again. Its personal taste but I did a solid black corvette and I prefer my paint cause it has the flake in there. It adds another level (or 5) of shine and depth.

Not sure why you'd want a metallic black black car to look solid black but I suppose that's up to you. The more you polish the paint, the more the flakes will shimmer. One way to mute it would be to use one of those waxes specifically made for black cars. The ones that fix scratches. That might darker it a bit.
