How to get old wax/sealants off?

I've been experimenting with waxes and sealants on my hood. The Klasse AIO is the clear winner so far. Planning to get the Klasse sealant to go over it, and top with souveran based on all reports here.

What do I use to get all the old wax/sealers off? Will a clay bar with Dawn get it all off? Its a guards red non-clear coat 80's porsche. Thanks.

AIO is all you need, it removes anything under it.

Mist a pad for the pc with a QD or water slightly and alittle blob of aio, work it on speed 3 or 4 and spread it thin.

If the pad starts to dry out mist again, aio works best with a slightly damp pad or applicator, but if you find it is becimg hard to remove, you use too much water or it wasnt thin enough.

Three products I think that are best ,two of which I use regularly

-the 50:50 isopropyl alcohol:water mix

-a solvent product specifically designed for the purpose ( Prepsol, Prep-All, 3m General Adhesive Cleaner, long list)

-A wax removing wash product: Akrya's "Klean" <---I haven't tried, wish to get more info on it

If I have a coat of Zymol on the paint, and rub AIO over it, what happens to the Zymol? Seems like I'd have a slurry of AIO and Zymol, no? Do I then wash to get that off, and then start fresh?

Assuming you are not doing any mechanical (abrasive) polishing, then AIO would be your final step prior to either sealant or carnauba. AIO will remove whatever products are on your paint, much like soap removes sweat and dirt from your skin. Only difference is instead of rinsing, you are simply removing the residue with a cloth.

Bottom line is you work the AIO into the paint and then remove it. There is no hazing time needed. It is a WOWO (WORK on, wipe off) product. ;)

Thanks, that makes sense. I forgot about the residue -- I guess that's where the zymol goes.

After the AIO, I was going to use Klasse glaze, then souveran. Sound ok?

Depends. Some people want a surface clean of all paint products before polishing. Since AIO does not have any fillers, it allows people to see the true condition of the paint. I personally prefer to use AIO after polishing as a base for sealants/carnaubas.

tom,

Sounds good. Interested in my PM or do you have SG?

I always use the IPA mix even prior to AIO because if I reveal any defects I catch I would prefer to go back and remove the layer of AIO ( it leaves behind a "prep layer" for use as protection by itelsf but more popularly, to be topped with more protection: SG or whatever other LSP one fancies); so reserving the AIO only when the paint's condition satisfies me, it's the specific wax/sealant removing products for me until I reach that point.

A good paint cleaning product such as Sonus or gliptone, before you begin (or even after) a polish, then your lsp.

I would not use that, or if you do be very very careful. That stuff stains trim and molding. We reuined the trip on a Porsche 928 for a custome. Be very very careful.

Will ColorX remove as well???
Yes it will. If I am not mistaken, its basically the same concept as Klasse AIO.
