they don't even know what this stuff is. How can I convince them to buy these services that will not only make washing easier (they have no wax!) but improve the clarity / shine tremendously.

Anyone have some good methods? i have brought their cars into the light to show them the swirls... I am thinking about just doing like the trunklid or something.

I wouldnt mind if someone asked me before washing my car:

" Do you mind if I polish out your hood so you can see how good it can look? If you like it I'll give you a deal on the complete car."

Keep it simple & direct.

Doing a demo on their car is a good idea for someone who is real skeptical. Can't deny the improvements.

But usually I don't go into all steps and products unless they want to know. Just explain the benefits of the results; how good their car will look, how it will maintain its value, stuff like that.

There's an old saying in sales: sell the sizzle, not the steak

Everyone likes a nice juicy steak on their plate but no one wants to know how it got there. Sell the benefits of a full detail and you'll be more successful.

demos are great idea, if you do the swirls that are on the door, the front & rear fenders will still have swirls.

what i usually do is take their car out in the sun and explain what all those lies are, then they see my car and theres no hair line scratches by that time they ususlly give in and we start talking bout pricing

:wall I can't believe I didn't think about that before!!! That's a great idea!! Too many people up here in PA are very skeptical and un-educated with auto care.

Bring before after pictures of previous work. that's the most cost effective way to show them.

That is why I carry a photo album of my work with me.

Reason #5593579347 why I prefer 35mm over digital. :p

Show them pictures of the end result.

Print out descriptions of products you use and show them. Let the marketers of your products help you sell your services.

I have done this with top notch products we use and watch people's eyes light up and go into a giddy state and tell me to do it.

For example, people love the description of Pinnacle products. Luscious slatherings of banana and coconut oils ooze effortlessy over your vehicle, bathing it in a glaze, etc... blah, blah, blah

Have them read that coupled with pictures and they'll agree to it if the price is right.

spetulla,

Maybe you should focus more on how the polish and wax will protect their car.

Let them know about the good benefits of keeping their car cleaned, polished and waxed on a regular basis.

I am going to write down an approach to take towards the buyer. I will bring along product information, outline all of the benefits in my own words (protection, look, value), and get some pics.

I have no camera whatsoever. :( which sucks. However I think I will see if I can use my friend Russ's and do it to his hood or something :)

I started a detailing club (groups.msn.com/pinasdetailing) for a couple of years before our shop got established, by now, people knows and trusts us with detailing and were not one of those "me too" shadetree detail outlets who doesn't know what a glaze, clay or sealant is since the suppliers only sells compounds, polishes and waxes.
