How to clean carpeting?

I need my entire carpeting cleaned. But how do i do it by myself? The only cleaner for carpeting I have laying around is called "Blue Magic", anyone heard of this? Do I just spray it on, and scrub? Or do I use dish soap and water? Do I need a special vacuum to remove it? The nearest detail shop wants like $70 to do this. Any tips on how to do by myself would be great.

The carpet in your car is like any other carpet. You can use a foaming type cleaner and work it in or you can use an extractor type like the Bissell type machines. The only trick I have found is to use a brush to raise the nap. There is a lot of information in the ebook, even in the free section, if I recall correctly.

I've been looking at the Bissell's but was curious how often can you use these? Do they have negative effects as well and should only be used like once a year?
