How to clean auto carpet with your PC

Ive been in the carpet cleaning biz for some time. Thought I would share with you guys another effective way to use your PC 7424. You can clean car interiors very effectively with this unit. Heres how.

#1 Vacuum car interior. Critical

#2 Get some terry cloth bonnets for your PC. You will need approx 15.

#3 You need a good cleaner made for bonneting/padding. Retail products will not work. I recommend Carpet Care Systems "Abstraction" for this. You can find it at bbs.ccsop.com. Click on home page. It runs around $15 bucks a gallon and is very concentrated. I believe dilution is 4-6 oz per gallon.

#4 Spray cleaner on carpet. Make sure you apply cleaner with the hottest water possible. Hot water breaks down grease and grime twice as fast as cold water.

#5 Agitate cleaner into carpet. Use a horseshoe brush. Let dwell on carpet for 10 minutes.

#6 Take a terry cloth pad, and put in on your PC. Make sure it is damp. Do not run the cloth on the carpet dry. Start runing your PC over the carpet. The PC will scrub the dirt right into the terry cloth pad. Keep working the PC until the pad is filthy. Switch to a new one and keep going.

Once you are done, groom the carpet back to its original state. A heavy duty comb would work.

You can also clean the upholstery this way. Same process.

I know guys in the industry who use oscillating machines to clean carpet and the results are phenominal. They just use much bigger machines than a PC, but for small jobs like cars the PC would be awesome.

Just a tip from a professional carpet cleaner. Try it, I bet you'll like it!

Awesome!!!! Thanks. I actually used the packaged foam pad in a similar manner. This is a thousand times better. If I had a a tenth of a brain, I would have done this already. Microwave the darn solution for extreme hotness.

You could also use your old ROB this way. Works better with low nap.

If you have a local janitorial supply store, ask for something to "bonnet buff" carpets with.

It also reduces the amount of moisture applied to the carpet/upholstery, thus reducing drying times.

In my experience, though, it doesn't do as thorough a job as a good extracting. Most professional carpet cleaners would do the bonnet buffing as a maintenance step, rather than a restoration step, or even in addition to the extraction. This way there is more aggitation/soil removal before extracting the residue.

Still, if you have to get the job done/dry quickly, and the soil isn't too bad, this can work!

Ed's adivice is right on.
I have used this method to clean high rise office carpet because we could not run the turck mount hoses up 20 stories. In my opinion the true key to this method is agitation. You have to make sure your cleaner is getting deep into the fibers. The cotton bonnets pull and absorb the dirt out of the carpet and into the pad. I have always had great success when I have done this. The amount of nasty dirt trapped on the pads is amazing.
