A good quality WW (waffle weave) MF (micro-fiber) towel. Here are links to two of many places to buy some:

http://www.pakshak.com/

PakShak offers a very good discount to members of this board, enter the code Autopia when ordering, or e-mail Ranney for the prices/discount. I've used WW's from both and have been pleased with each of their towels.

Regarding chamois vs WW MF towel, the WW towel wins hands down.

Chamois: :down

WW MF Towel: :bigups

Basically, all you need to do is just thoroughly rinse your chamois after each use. That's about all that is necessary to keep it in good condition.

And store it in the container that it came in. Don't let it dry out.

I personally prefer chamois over MF or WW.

What kind of chamois are we talking about? I own three different types, natural (animal hide), PVA and microfiber.

There are special cleaners made specifically for natural hide chamois (TOL, Griot's). I've never tried them. I don't use the natural chamois on paint anymore. For me it's been relegated to metal bumpers, side steps, spare tire brackets, etc.

The "chamois" I see around the most is the PVA type. These are the ones that feel sort of like a very soft, thin sponge material when wet. I just throw them in the laundry with my microfiber towels.

The thing I don't like about most PVA chamois is that they really suck down to the paint and take too much force to drag them along. There are waffle patterned PVA chamois that are much easier to use. I think they dry better too.

The microfiber "chamois" is different from MF towels. The material doesn't have an obvious weave pattern to it and has no stitching or border. I also wash it with the MF towels. Mine doesn't dry as well as my PVA chamois but it takes much less force to draw along the paint.

All that said, I do agree that WW MF towels work far better than any chamois. I hardly use any chamois at all any more.

The one drawback to WW MF towels is that they, like any towel, will eventually get wet and will stop working until you let them dry. Not a problem if you have enough towels or a big enough towel to do the job at hand. Chamois can be wrung out and used indefinitely so they can be used on multiple cars.

A good combination is to use a chamois to absorb the bulk of the water and a MF towel get what little is left.

PC.

~One manâ€â„¢s opinion / observations~

My Father is an avid user of â€Ëœnaturalâ€â„¢ chamois, he rinses it 3-4 times in clean water and then hand-washes it with Chamois Cleaner (Griotâ€â„¢s Garage P/N 11140) it replaces the skinâ€â„¢s natural oils and conditions it to keep it supple (heâ€â„¢s had it for years so he must be doing something right as far as caring for it)

I use a waffle weave micro fibre towel from Autopia

~Hope this helps~

The best way to maint it is to keep it in storage..... ;)

I used to like chamois until I tried microfiber. No contest!

Yes, the chamois has more of the "coolness" factor, but the MF is far more effective. Water blade + WW = dry car in less than 5 minutes :up
