How Often Should I Wash Microfiber Towels?

I just purchased some microfiber towels and cloths to dry and clean my new car. How often should I wash them? Should they be washed every time I wash my car? I read that you should not wash them with fabric softener. Is it okay to put them in a dryer where I have dried clothes that had fabric softener on them? I use Downy in the washing machine.

I wash mine after every use...only because I don't want to let product sit on them for long...you can wash them in the machine...just make sure that you soap doesn't have softener in it...not sure about Downy...I like to dry air dry mine but sometimes that can't be done...I then dry on low heat

They hold up real well so washing them after each use would be best.

That is a good question. I don't know if microfiber will pick-up residue from previously using fabric softener in the dryer. I don't think it does. I haven't had a problem.

I have a decent amount of towels, so I just wash them when I start running low. I use Oxy Clean in the washer and dry them by themselves without a fabric sheet. I'd suggest that you use the towels only once and then wash them. Make sure you wash and dry them by themselves and do not use any fabric softener or dryer sheets. I haven't had a problem with the microfiber towels picking up any residual softener from other washes, so you should be good to go there.

Thanks to everyone for your replies to my question. I usually use Tide Free for my laundry, so I will use this to wash the towels every time I use them. It does not contain any fabric softener, fragrance, or dyes. I will go ahead and throw them into the dryer since it seems others haven't had any problems doing this.

:thanks

I typically add white vinegar to the rinse cycle of the wash. I had read that it helps to maintain the microfiber and remove any calcium deposits. I also set the washer to do a second rinse cycle.

In the dryer I always make sure that the lint trap is very clean as well as the drum.

Good luck.

Jim

I wash them after every use. Warm water in the wash, Micro-Restore detergent and hang to dry!
