I am just wondering how often you guys SMR your cars? After reading this board for a few weeks it sounds like some of you do this almost weekly.

I am guessing that means remove swirls from cars? It depends on what abuse the paint goes through. If you polish once and get rid of all the swirls and seal the paint and wax it every 2 weeks. Remembering to wash properly. I would say about a year if not a lot longer. Though, it really depends on what the CAR has on the paint. Do you see lots of swirls after a year? Scratches all over the place?Oxidation? Those are the things you need to look for when determining whento polish again really. Though, to answer you question specifically, I would say once or twice a year.

Once or twice a year.

Live in a northern snowbelt, so I usually do one major detail in the spring that includes SMR.:) As needed after that, but that is usually a "spot" type of thing if something untold happens.

My routine has been top wax every 4 washings, which is about once a month...polish and wax at 6 months... and complete strip down, SMR, polish, wax once a year.

Depends on how careful I am with washing and QD..if I notice swirls I'll jump on them on the next scheduled monthly...

But aren't you guys rubbing off more and more clearcoat each time you polish?

Depends on what you are using. Strong paint cleaners should only be used once or twice on clearcoats if at all possible. Most swirl removers have very mild abrasives and glazes have extremely light abrasives.

I normaly polish with a glaze every 3rd time I wax and deep clean (comparitively) my paint about once a year, usually with Meguiars Swirl Free Polish, then follow with a glaze and wax.

Many of the members of this forum are Professional Detailers. When you read their posts about using SMR every week, it isn't the same car. It's a different customers car each time. Once or twice a year will probably catch most people.
