How much would you charge to remove 3' x 2' vinyl stick on the roof?

I am located in Orange County, CA. Never offer this service. Recently just removed some old logo on my van. Let me tell you. It is pain in the axx to do it right even with heat gun.

The 3' x 2' american flag vinyl sticker is on the roof of some kind of muscle car that worth around $35,000.00. To play safe on my side. I am thinking this is between 6-8 hours job. Does it sound right?

Use an adhesive remover (solvent), a plastic razor blade, and a steamer (like a shark, or scunci). Should make the job go much much quicker than what you had originally planned.

To be honest, I haven't removed a sticker that large, but the materials and the glue are the same for large ones as they are for small. I would say about an hour, maybe two at the most. However, by using the right tools, it could come off much quicker than that. I use 3M Adhesive Remover and a commercial grade steamer, but any steamer should work. Run steam over a small section of the sticker (say 8" x 8") for a couple of minutes to warm up the glue, then use a plastic razor blade to pull up one corner of the sticker. Keep working the sticker free by pulling slowly on the end while using the steam to loosen the glue as you go. The razor will help to free sections that just don't want to come free. Then use the adhesive remover, a towel, and the razor to remove the glue that is left behind. The steamer is the key to making your life easier in this case...it should loosen that glue pretty easily. Good luck and just be patient. Take care.

Why not just use a heat gun? Seems you could get the glue a lot "goo-e-er" quicker and maintin the heat easier?

I have some decals I want to remove too they are about 10" x 3ft on the side of my truck :hm

If the decal is of good quality it might come off in one pull with the proper pre-heating with the heat gun. Also not too sure about soaking the decal in solvent, you have to remove the vinyl first. I wouldn't want my cars paint soaking in solvent while i wait for it to soften a decal. Solvent is to remove the glue.

BTW isn't a steamer like 240-260F (pressure)?

I wouldn't soak the sticker in sovent either, use it to remove the glue left behind as mentioned. In my experience, a steamer has worked better than a heat gun. I don't know if it's the heat combined with the moisture of the steam, but the stickers just seem to come off easier with the proper preheating. I'm not saying that a heat gun wouldn't work in this situation, just saying for me the steamer has been more effective. Hopefully it would speed up the process, because I know I would probably go insane if I was on the same sticker for 6-8 hours!! :hairpull Heck, you could probably have the thing grinded off, sanded down, and repainted in that amount of time :D Whatever method you choose to go with, good luck to ya.

Thanks for sharing your thought.

I decided not to provide this service, because I might most likely over or under quote. Inform the customer to remove the sticker by local sign store and come back for detailing.

Play safe is the key.

Jacky,

Looks like you made a good choice. Sometimes vinyl decals come off rather quickly and sometmes they don't. And when you're dealing with a $35,000 car, there is no room for error. Very smart move!
