How much pressure should I apply on the PC?

Hey guys I bought my PC at autogeek with the wolfgang pads.

I'm using Optimum Polish and I was wondering how much pressure to apply and what speed setting to use when applying the polish.

The car I'm working on has very fine swirls so I will likely be using the orange light cutting pad.

Also how long should I work each section? I know you are supposed to do it until the polish dries but I'm not sure what the average time that it should be.

Thanks.

With a PC, it can take up to 4-5mins/panel using only the weight of the polisher to work the product in. That's my thought.

You may want to rethink the pad selection first of all. If there are very 'fine' number of swirls meaning they aren't too many and not to noticable, a polishing pad will be better off for you. Without a picture I can't tell though. Just the weight of the polisher and then some if you need it will do. The optimum has an infinite working time so after a decent amount of time (minute or so per panel) and you like the results then move on.

On each panel I go up and down, then side to side, then diagonally and thats ususally enough. I use medium pressure with my PC. Go as long as you need to to get the desired results.

Budman is right you might just need the polishing pad. Its hard to tell without pics but it sounds like you're getting on the right track.

I think it also depends on what kind of car you're talking about. Some paints are much harder than others.

Thanks guys I will try the polishing pad. What speed do you guys use?

6K for top panels that are bad . It'll vibe the hell out of ya but sometimes you need that extra umph. :boxing:

5K for the rest

1k for wax and/or sealant applications.

Majority of the time I just use the weight of the PC and use more pressure for deeper imperfections when needed.

As far as amount of time...for me it varies on temp., product, speed, etc. so I just go by the look of the polish.

Each polish breaksdown differently so get familiar with the ones you use the most...This will save you a lot of headaches with over or under working the polish.

FWIW What I do with a new polish is - work it in and check a section at the different stages to see when the polish has done it's work and broken down properly.

Good luck!

It is a mazing the difference of opinion on this topic....

I was told at first to use machine pressure....

Then I was told between 15 and 25 lbs pressure, depending on product.....

I've tried both ways and both seem to work, although with more pressure its seems like I was able to remove more defects, but hard to tell.......

I am considering Golf.... :beer_smil

I'm not sure where you heard to put down 25 pounds of pressure....that seems way to much. The PC is a dual action polisher. Put youor machine on low and start it up holding it in the air. The pad jiggles and rotates. Now put your hand over the pad...it stops rotating. So with too much pressure you take out one of the actions of the PC thus not getting desired results. With a little bit of experience you will figure out when you get to the point of too much pressure.
