How much can one expect to make?

Hi. I'm a new Autopia member thinking of going the route of starting my own auto detailing business. My biggest concerns right now are what's the income potential in this business, (I realize that may vary by location. I am in Arizona), and what's the best route to get started. To clarify that last point, I'm asking if I should work for a local detailing company for a while to learn the trade, go to a school, or just jump in with a van and some stuff? Or what about simply buying someone else's already established business?

I appreciate any and all insight you all might have.

Thanks!

I've found the most successful detailers are businessmen and not necessarily detailers. It's not just about location it's also about how well you can run a business.

Have you ever detailed before?

I've detailed my own cars in the past, but not for others. I really enjoy it and every time I spend a Saturday morning washing my car, it becomes a quest to clean everything. I've been a salesman for 13 years but I'm burned out on it and really not very good at it. I've never run my own business before.

I hope that added detail helps clarify things.

Honestly, I'd suggest a lot more experience and maybe some training first.
