How many pads should I get?

Hi there,

It’s me again trying to rid my ’57 Chevy of those swirls and scratches.

Just about to place my order for a Flex polisher and was wondering just how many pads should I order? I’m going to be using the following cleaner/polishes:

M80, then if needed follow up with M09 (or M205), then maybe with M07 before hand waxing.

I was thinking of ordering the following LC pads:

1 orange

3 whites

2 Grey/black

Will this be enough do do the car as I have no idea how often one needs to switch to a clean pad in the process? BTW I’ll be doing all except the roof.

thanks for your help. You’ve all given me tons of great advice...making my learning curve that much less steep! :2thumbs:

What kind of shape is the paint in?

The LC white pad doesn't have much cut - I'd personally flip what you've got since you've got a lot of surface to cover. With 3 pads you have some ability to wash and dry spares while you use one.

Personally, I keep all my pads single-purpose (only use them with one particular liquid - I'm a GlossHaus guy) and have multiple for all the polishes, a couple for glaze and just one each for wax. If you need more cut, the LC yellow is pretty aggressive.

If you're new to machine detailing, I'd really recommend the PC 7424XP. Great machine with a lot of correction capability, and a lot easier to use/maneuver, etc.

Other than those light swirls and scratches, the paint looks pretty good with ample shine. This car has spent the better part of it`s life in a garage since its resto about 9 years ago.

I would go 3 of each. for example, one for top(hood, roof, trunk) 2nd for one side, third for the other side.

5 of each...I blow through pads each detail. Its easier to use and get a new one slapped on rather than trying to clean them and extend their use one more panel....then throw them in the washer and do a low heat short dry in the dryer and you are ready for car #2

looks like a good deal over at detailed image. i almost placed an order, but then i noticed that their 7 pad special is the spot buff pads, not the CCS. are the CCS pads better than the spot buff for a 7424?

The deal at detailedimage isnt over. 6.5 pads are $7.99 and 4" pads are $3.99. Buy them individually, not in the set. The debate between CCS and spot buff has already brought up with several different threads. Just search for that. From most of those threads, it comes down to personal preference.

If you have the resources to buy 3 or 4 of each to start that would be nice. Its a pain washing them once you get in the zone.

I am similar to envious in that I use a ton of pads on each detail.
