How many of you guys lift weights?

Porkanbeans

O RLY?
I'm curious to see how many guys on here work out. As for me, being in the school football program mandates weight lifting year round. Every morning, first thing when I get to school, I have weight training. Mondays and Thursdays we do power cleans, squats, and some other arm muscle workouts. Tuesdays and Fridays we do bench and some other things like lat pulls and leg workouts. It's not the L.A. Fitness extreme schedule, but I have gained about 50 pounds over the summer and into this school year and I've gotten a lot stronger. Really helps out if you're the "slimmest" defensive tackle on the team. ;)

So do you lift weights? And if so, how much can you squat, clean, and bench? I personally bench about 210, squat 350, and clean somewhere around 200.

ahhh, weight lifting. first, ill start out by saying that im 16 years old, 5'6 and weigh 145 lbs.......

now back to weight lifting. for some odd reason, i workout for tennis.. over the summer i was way more serious than i am now. now ive really been bogged down by hoemwork and trying to squeeze in some time for community service and detailing. i try to work out at least 3 times a week, but those workouts dont really count because im not doin a full body workout, only certain muscles (chest, legs, shoulders, back, etc.) one of my aunty's friend's son holds some olympic weightlifting record for bench press, 370 lbs (?) for the 150lb weight class. anyways, hes the one that first got me into weight lifting, and i've never had a chance to work out with him yet. every weekend i want to lift with him, but either hes at the UH football game, or im too tired....

for the most part i do my lifting at home, i have a basic bench, lat pulldowns, quad extensions, lots of dumbells, incline crunch machine, and a pull-up bar. i like to take whey protein after i work out. i would prefer to work out in the morning, but im not really a morning person. also, its very hard on weekdays because i sleep late, and have to wake up at about 5:30 AM to get ready to drive to school. :(

i havent grown at all, probably becuase i dont take it seriously. my bench has remained the same, even decreasing by 5 lbs. im all the way down to 115 10 reps. i dont do any cleaning or squatting becuase my dad doesnt know how to help me with those. however, ive always wanted to squat, so i just squat with two dumbells in my hands.

definitely ..... 12 oz at a time

# of reps varies, as does the # of sets

just kidding, 'cause I do have an exercise machine that max's out at 150 lbs. I don't do free weights over 30 lbs but I do whatever I can with what I have.

Also, do treadmill, bicycle, some step for cardio, and exercise ball for core work.

Porkanbeans:

I played 2 years of Division III College Football in NJ as a defensive end. Squats, deadlifts, cleans and benching are obviously key to building explosive strength. I went through a growth spurt in high school at age 15 to 16 that resulted in being a 180lbs. sophmore that did not start JV, to being a 220 junior that start both ways on varsity. Size is a big plus on the gridiron, but never sacrifice speed for size. Always work on improving your foot speed as well as your strength.

My biggest lift totals were when I was 20 years old. All things being relavent they were not all that impressive because I reached a peak weight that year at about 295 lbs (moooooo!!!) Yeah I had no neck, but I lost a considerable amount of foot speed and had to slim down. :hah

Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress !!!

Improve your cardio, in the long run it is very beneficial to all around health. Depending on where you live, elevation gain is also something to strive for, doing hiking, running what ever at 2000 ft is nothing compared to doing it at say 10,000 ft or more. To me this is being fit, not just looking it, but looking fit is nice, until you have to prove it, not in the gym though. I know some people in their 60s-70s that will put people in their 20s-30s to shame when it comes to hiking. It's all about altitude, and how much oxygen you need.

im a gym rat also . im 38 now so i cant recover from 3 hour workouts anymore but i workout 5 days a week i do 45 min weights and 20 or 30 min cardio plus i have a physical job . on the weekends my detailing can be a workout especially when i buff a car with the rotary . when im feeling good and taking supplements i can bench 305 and do seated shoulder presses with 80lb dumbells plus leg press 1,000 lb . right now im doing light weights in the 20 rep zone for 4 sets each exercise . its all about living a healthy life for me i dont want to deal with the consequences of a bad lifestyle . cancer , obeisity , ect . besides i really like to eat and i would be a butterball without exercise .. later

Love to work out. I had a job that required me to look really fit. (well, still have the job). Im not working out right now bc of a shoulder problem but hoping to get back in by the next month. I was working out atleast 5-6-7 days a week and sometimes twice a day if I had the time for about 2-2 and half hours a day. It might sound like a over kill and I might not be giving my body a rest but for the way I do my workout schedule its ok for awhile. I started to work out about almost 2 years ago and for a little wile I was working out like once to twice a week then stoped for awhile then got back into it hard and now I have a shoulder problem and I can't do anything. But when I first started I weighed about 135 (I have a super fast metabolism and is really hard to put on pounds and keep). Now about years later I weigh about 185 and have a body fat % is about 4. I believe I have lost about a bit of weight but don't want to check. Going to piss me off so I don't.

I bench about 285, squat 375( don't have really strong legs) and dead lift about 340. I also love using the free weights more than anything and I usually use the 90-95 dumbbells for flat bench, 80-85 dumbbells for incline bench, 100 dumbbells for decline.

Wow. There are some pretty cool stories from you all! I wish I had the luxury of a home gym, but for now I can just drive to the gym 5 min. away from home if I want extracurricular activity. ;)

I work out at the gym 5 days a week cardio and weights, weather permitted I bicycle 20 miles when I can get out.
In my late 20's I weighted 245 pounds at 5"5 went on a diet and lost 80 pounds. I ran marathons for 4 years and then started bicycling after I messed up my foot in a race.
I rode with a team for 5 years until early my 40's I was a catorgy 3 rode rider, best shape of my life. Today I try to keep it up but age has a funny thing that it does to the body, also family, and work kill alot of my time.

To those in HS and college enjoy your workout and free time now, for it will all change. It will get better!!!

I havent lifted in 10 years. Back in the late 80's early 90's I was a gym rat. 7 days a week 2x a day. I was in the 400/600 club with a little help (if you know about bodybuilding in the 80's).

Wish I could go back. I think about how great I looked and felt but with 2 kids and a job that I work 12 hours a day and commute 2 hours it isnt possible.

I lift 3 nights a week and run 3-4 mi for the rest. I started this back in the winter last year after about a year of not going...I've worked out since I was 14. I was actually stonger in high school than I am now Last week I benched 385....the most I did in football was 415.
