How Many MF Pads Needed For Compact Car?

Hey Guys,

I am detailing my little GTI this weekend. Wondering how many MF pads I'll need (cutting) to do the entire car. Planning on hitting it with FG400 and a Meguiars MF 5.5 cutting pad. I have a two pack ready to go, just wondering if this will be enough.

I have an air compressor and brush.

Thanks!

It depends on how much correcting you are doing, how well you prime the pad and how well you keep it clean. Also, depending on what you machine you are using be very careful using the FG400. It makes a lot heat on the MF pads. I just did a car last week, using the Rupes 21 w/ the washer mod using the above combo and ended going with the MF finishing pad and lowered my speed down to 3.

Use compressed air and push the pad into a MF towel to help draw the moisture out of it. FG400+ Meg's MF pads= defect killer.

But to directly answer your question I think two MF pads would do a car that size.

You're right. Two pads did it and it also got blazing hot when I used heavy pressure. I noticed it flattened out the fingers quickly and that is when the heat began to generate quickly. I used a tooth brush to clean the pad, it was the fastest and most effective method of cleaning it on the fly.

I used a Rupes 15 to do the correction. It took about 4 passes to get the correction I needed on my VW. Very tough paint. Since I was working outside (warm weather), it required reapplication of product after only two passes.
