How long does PB EX-P last?

I'm very conflicted over which sealant to get. My choices have been narrowed down to Poorboy's EX-P and Klasse SG.

EX-P

  • Applies well in full sun
  • Easier overall to apply

Klasse SG

  • Last along time...more durable.
  • Can be difficult to apply without streaking.
  • Can't be used in full sun.

I plan on topping either sealant with Optimum Car Wax. I want something that can last me thru ~4 months of winter in NJ. I was planning on using a self service car wash during the really cold months and then retopping with OCW.

Can I get 4-6 months with EX-P if it is topped regularly with OCW?

You can use anything and top it with OCW regularly and still have it last. SG may last a little longer but the EX-P and OCW should last the winter with the help from OCW.

Is there another sealant topper you would recommend? I like the OCW because it's supposed to be a quick and easy wipe on application. I'm on the go a lot and have a pretty long commute. It's not always possible for me to follow a regular full wax or sealant routine.

I can easily get 3-4 months out of EX-P, especially if re-applying OCW or some other spray wax to extend its life.

Also, if you put a base of AIO under the EX-P you will get better protection/durability as well as a great look.

If you don't mind the glossy sealant look, AJ Trigger also applies very easily and is super durable. Some people are also raving about a 50/50 mix of Carnauba Jett and OCW, although I have yet to try it out.

Agreed. That is what I'd do.

I forgot to mention, I plan on using either AIO or DP Final Finishing Polish first.

I have the original version of EX-P, but IMO SG, hands down.

I know SG is more durable but it's harder to apply correctly from what I've read and it can't be put down in full sun. I don't have any trees or a garage I can use. Full sun is all I have.

If you want winter durabilty fo N.E...go with the Klasse twins..I had it on my truck last year..topped with collinite...and sprayed with AW when weather permited...and it lasted all winter..no problems...

AIO x 1

SG x 2

collinite 915 or fleetwax x 2

AW after a wash...

do it in Oct or Nov...and you will go till May no problem...

EX=P will not last in a NE winter...salt and road grime destroys it...looks nice for a summer look ..but not for winter...piddles out...

AIO by itself will not be that durable. Is an excellent chemical cleaner and acrylic base. Needs to be topped with something more durable e.g. SG, EX-P, AJ, IW845, etc.

SG just requires some practice to put down thinly. And you can't have full sun all day! SG can be put on really quickly once you get the hang of putting it on thinly, you can probably do your whole car in 10 minutes at dawn or dusk.

Yeah - SG didn't seem difficult to me at all.

Of course - that's probably because I had read all the horror stories about SG and that scared me into taking the "you can't use too little" approach to applying SG very seriously.

If you take the "you can't use too little/whisper thin" approach to heart, SG is as easy to use as most any other sealant out there. I put 3 coats on in 3 weeks without much difficulty and with great results.

Hmmm...I'll keep that in mind regarding the SG application. I've read that if you wet you mf applicator with some QD, that will help with the application. Question is, will it affect proper bonding of SG?

Just wet the app with water (damp only). I do it dry most of the time.

Which makes it easier? Or is there no difference?

Doesn't water affect the bonding process? Or is that only with water based sealants and not a concern with Klasse SG?

FWIW - I use a MF applicator that is damp, not wet for applying SG. Having a damp cloth just helps facilitate a smooth application of the first few swipes of SG, before the applicator is soaked with the product.

You shouldn't need to re-wet the applicator because, as you progress, it becomes more and more saturated with SG.

Since the applicator is merely damp to start and not wet (I wet the applicator and then wring out every bit of moisture I can), it does not appear to have an appreciable negative effect on the bonding of the SG.
