How long do plums bead?

So I was at Costco today and bought some prepackaged Black Diamond plums.

I get home and proceed to eat one when I notice on the package the following "coated with food grade vegetables and\or petroleum based wax to maintain freshness"

I did notice how nicely the plums shone and decided to put some water over it and it beaded quite nicely thank you. Now I always thought wax fruit was the fake stuff people use to put on thier tables for decoration.

Being the fearless guy that I am I ate one and "dang" it tasted good. One of the best I ever had. In fact I had one more. :bounce

Is this waxing a common practice on plums and what's stopping me from buttering my popcorn with P21s tomorrow.

I'm just curious to what's the difference between petroleum based plum wax and petroleum car wax. Any fruit experts here that know this. Yeah I know I got way too much time on my hands. :wall

I think this is why you should wash a fruit before consumption!!!!

although.....I read somewhere before that carnuba wax is used on pills and tablets.

Yes, and things like M&M Peanuts (don't know if they still do)...do you think they have candy detailers??:wavey

On alot of fruits (apples in particular) they tend to use shellac (bug spit), and perhaps wax as well. So I think it'd be more like eating bug spit and NXT spray wax.

Yum, yum. Eat up!
