How long do pc pads last

I have a yellow meguiars pad for my pc and about 3/4 of the velcro backing has come off the pad. I have used it maybe 6 times and it has been hand washed after each use. I thought it would last longer than this? This has not happened to any of my cma pads?

I hear ya there. I just had one of my Meguiar's pads crap out on me after only 3 weeks of use. Its too the point that it won't even stick to the velcro backing plate anymore. It will stick for about half a second and then fall right off. Its worthless to me at this point. I'm going to write Meguiar's and find out what the deal is with em. You are the second person I've talked to who has told me they have had problems with the Meguiar's pads. They cost too much money to wear out this quickly.

I can't help but wonder if it has to do with how you use the pads, that is your PC polishing technique, or maybe how you wash them, rip them off the backing pad, etc. This has been brought up before I think, and I seem to remember the range of people who say they last forever, and then others who said they had a short lifespan. :nixweiss

I end up pitching my orbital pads becaue the backing ends up tearing off. I never have to throw them away because the pad is no good anymore.

For my rotary though I end up having to throw them away when the pad wears out. I never have a problem with the backing coming off.

This reminds me. I need to order some more mads for my orbital soon.

I have some cma pads and they are fine and I have used them more than the meguiars pad.

I sent meguiars an e-mail with my problem and this is the response I got:

Dear Jonathan,

Thank you for your inquiry. The pads cannot be washed. Doing so can damage

the Velcro backing. I know that we are really lacking good instructions on

how to clean the pads. We would be happy to replace the pad this time free

of charge. Please give us a call at 1-800-347-5700. Mention this email and

any of our guys will be more than happy to send a replacement pad out to

you. I hope this is helpful for you. Thanks again for your email.

I have to say that i disagree with meg's. I through my PC pads and rotary pads in the washer all the time. In fact some of them will be washed once a day. I have some pads for about 3 months and they are as good as new. Velcro is sticking fine and I never had a problem with them falling off.

The only time i did have a problem with them falling off it when I had too much product soak through the pad and it lifted the velcro off the pad.

Other than that I never had a problem washing meg's, cma or 3m's pads

Interesting thread. My CMA and Megs pads are already shedding copious amounts of foam "dust" after only 3-4 uses. This is happening to all pads, not just certain ones. Its like they're shedding. I guess they're still usable but it makes a real mess on the car. Are you guys having the same problem and what are you doing about it? I'd hate to replace 6 pads after only a few uses.

What i suggest you guys try is this....

After each use with the pads at the end of the day through them in the washer. Set the washer on hot water and use 1 1/2 cups of liquid tide. It removes all left over product on the pads and foam dust.

I have been doing this for a while and never had a problem.

Meguiar's needs to improve the Velcro backing then. It is really cheap of them to use a product that isn't capable of getting wet. I don't wash my pads in the washing machine. I just hose them off. I find it interesting that CMA has the ability to sell pads that can handle getting wet and not fall off the PC while Meguiar's cannot. I have no choice but to buy another Meguiar's pad for now but I'm putting in an order as soon as I can for any other kind of pad other than Meguiar's. :down

I go back & forth between meg's & cma. Who ever has the best price. But when it comes to rotary pads, I only trust the 3m waffle pads.

I can see using a foam flat pad on the rotary like the ones meg's makes. That will create way to much heat.

I simply refuse to ever purchase another Meguiar's pad. Three pads, three failures after a single use. Velcro came away from the pad when trying to remove from my backing plate (not completely, and not from the outer edges, but from the center). Perhaps there's a reason why the Meg's backing plate has so little grip to it (from what I've read) . . . I have a non-Meg's backing plate that really secures the pad well, and it appears to be stronger than whatever adhesive Meg's is using for their pads.

Oh, well. It's not a problem as Hi-Temp (one of Top of the Line's suppliers) is local to me, and they carry yellow and white 6" foam pads that are both less expensive and more durable.

My Griot's pads are awesome but were not lasting long. I think it was do to me ringin them out like they were a sponge after every detail.
