How long before stopping

I remember seeing that video posted on the forum of that guy who polished a panel of a Lotus Exige for about 2 minutes and 40 seconds. I'm wondering how he was able to polish that long. Hasn't the polish broken down already? It also sounded like he got the rotary up to about 2k rpm. I know he was on the final polishing stages so he's probably using a soft pad and a fine polish.

My question is this...

When do you know when it's time to stop polishing?

When the polish turns sort of transparent and is easy to remove with a rag, it's safe to assume it's broken down. There isn't really a rule of thumb as far as time because it varies by polish, ambient temp, speed, etc.
