How do you wash terry cloth towels after use?

Hey guys! I have a quick question. After using the 100% terry cloth towels to dry, detail, or remove cleaners, they are pretty dirty and cant be used for anything else until clean. My question: is it safe to throw the towels into the wash and use a detergent to wash them? I may have heard this was bad because after the wash the towels will scratch your paint due to the detergent. Is this true? And if it is, how do you clean your towels safely? Thanks for the advice!!
 
The key to cutting through and removing most of the wax residue is to add at least one cup of 'White Vinegar' during the wash cycle. I would also recommend using hot water and your favorite brand name liquid detergent.
 
The rule of thumb for using vinegar is 1/2 oz of vinegar for each towel in the load, i.e. 1 cup vinegar to 16 towels.



Besides what the other guys have already said, I usually run my towels through a couple more rinses to ensure all the liquid detergent is out of the towels.
