how do YOU choose which applicator??

i often read on here things like "dont use a sponge applicator for product x" and suchlike

unless the bottle has instructions on how to apply, how do i choose the best method of application?

what are the differances between all the hand applicators and how should i choose

For me, I prefer MF or cotton apps with products that have cleaners and/or abrasives in them, so the nap can pick up any potential grit from the finish.

I like foam apps with pure non-abrasive products, whether it be sealants or waxes. I do deviate sometimes though and will use cotton to apply those products as well.

I either use a cotton applicator or foam applicator, depending on which is clean and handy. Never had problems with either.

i bought a cheap carwash foam from walmart and cut it into 3 sections and i use them to apply tire dressing and zaino Z10 leather conditioner as well as the meguire vinyl/rubber conditioner. anybody see anything wrong with what i'm doing?

Echoing some of the other thoughts....I use a terry or MF applicator for any cleaner/polish and a foam applicator for topcoats. MF for leather cleaner or anything else where the lint from a terry applicator may be an issue.

As long as your chosen applicator doesn't leave undesired marring or cause other problems (e.g., lint on tires from the wrong thing to apply/buff dressing) I don't think it makes all *that* much of a difference what you use.

Cotton will generally be more aggressive than foam or MF, but beyond that I bet it's just personal preference. But I too use MF for polishes/glazes and foam for LSPs.

I use MF applicators for polishes and cleaners, because a little extra bite couldn't hurt. For pure LSPs, I prefer foam.
