How do I get where the buffer cant go?

I am detailing this weekend, going to hit some swirls with my PC and a LC yellow pad with DACP



Anyway, I notice on my front lip I have some swirls too, how do I get in the smaller areas where I cant go with a buffer? Do it by hand? Glaze it?

Two possible options: One, do it by hand. You won't get quite the same results, but it's better than not doing it at all. Two, buy the 4" backing plate and pads, and have a go at it with those.
 
the areas I am talking about wont accomodate that either



I guess I will use a terry cloth and the 3M SMR by hand to do the small areas, they dont see much sun and picking up swirls there is near impossible anyway. Thanks.
 
You should be able to do that area by hand to your satisfaction. There's an area similar to that (under the "SUBURBAN" emblem on the rear door) that I have to do on my wife's Suburban. I generally have to do it twice with SMR, then glaze it and wax it. Looks great that way!
 
I have used a "mouse" random orbital hand sander with a foam pad to do those hard to reach areas. I have also used that type of sander by putting it on top of a mf towel.
 
What about using the bottom edge of a LC 7.5" pad? There's a good 1" from the backplate to the edge of the pad...
 
A terry towel folded in 1/8th's will give you the cut (from the terry towel) and padding for equal pressure dispersion (from folding) you need to remove blemishes. Scottwax uses this method to polish. I'm sure he will post a few of his secrets once he views this thread.

That's how I get into A LOT of tight areas...a suggestion though...do the areas that you are going to do by hand FIRST, then use the buffer. This minimizes the areas done by hand that might not be up to par with the 'buffered' areas.



(I don't think I'm explaining this too well...if someone could help decipher what I just said)
