How do I fix scrached windows?

The previous owner must have used a paint scraper to clear the ice off the windows and they are scratched badly. The rear being the worst and the front being the second worse. I know they have deep scratches (can feel with finger nail) that can not be buffed out but I was wondering if it would be possible to remove or mask the large amount of little ones or at least lessen them a bit. Its terrible driving at night because the light gets distorted.

Glass is *very* hard and defects are therefore hard to correct. Start out by trying a good glass polish with a PC if you have one. The most aggressive thing I would do is #0000 steel wool with a glass polish. Be careful not to install more damage while trying to correct.

I don't think the back window can get any worse, unless of course it broke, but then my insurance would fix it. I don't have a PC but I do have an old 2 speed buffer with wool pads (Don't worry, I haven't used it on the paint). What would be a good polish? It would be nice if it was OTC and not too expensive. I don't really want to order something expensive only to find out that it won't help.

You could try a little Bar Keeper's Friend found at Lowes or Home Depot.

Thanks for the suggestion. Does it matter if its the powder or the liquid?

If anybody else has an idea feel free to share it.

I tried this the other night after closing the garage door on our CR-V's rear window. I used Bar Keeper's Friend and a mildly abrasive pad and instilled quite a bit of micromarring to the window. Made it much worse. Luckily it came out with SSR2.5 on speed 6. Just be careful on the glass, and don't make it worse than it already is.
