hey,

I recently left my sunroof open overnight and it rained. Needless to say, they are dried out and damaged after drying in the sun. Would steam cleaning help to expand the dried leather? Any other tips? Tried Meguairs and Mink oil as well.

The very first thing you need to do is state the year, make and mode of your car. There is a HUGE difference in the way you care for coated and uncoated leather.l

Although water is good for leather and is what keeps it in good conditioin, generally when it gets over soaked (as is the case here - having seen the photos on another forum) the leather fibres swell and become deformed. When they dry they do not shrink back to their original form and so become more brittle and distorted. Unfortunatley at this stage it is pretty impossible to rectify this. Adding oils/waxes will not work on coated leather and as the problem is with the fibres themselves being distorted there is nothing you can add to the leather that will help. Steam is unlikely to help in this case.

The area of damage in this case does not look too bad (there is normally bubbling etc.) so it may be possible to rehydrate and recolour the area. Could be worth a go.

Hope this helps
