carcleanandsarah007.jpg
but im still after a better finish !!! i picked this car up second hand and the previous owner had used carwashes all the time and completley wrecked the paint finish (loads of swirling in the paint !!)so im in the process of getting it back to how it should be.

so far im using ... gold class wash

meguiars clay

poorboys ssr2(i like this!!)

megs deep crystal polish

clearkote hand glaze

and finally gold class wax!!

i still feel there is room for improvement !!

can you give me any ideas on what products to try next to give an even deeper finish and shine to the finish please peeps????

ive been browsing but there is so much info out there on products it gets confusing!!!

oh yeah it was very overcast and cloudy on the day i took these so they dont reall do the car any justice!!!

anyone got reccomendations on waxes to try ??? iwas thinking of trying megs nxt ?? would this be any better than the gold class??

and do i really need a sealant aswell ??? (i thought the hand glaze was a sealant anyway????)

cheers peeps

It's all in your own eyes....and you don't seem to be too impressed with Gold Class, then try something else. NXT is an option, but quite a few people feel there are better "last step products" (LSPs)-waxes and sealants. Wolfgang Deep Gloss Sealant ($19.99, online) on dark blue would look nice, since it has consistently looked great on darker colors in general. For a wax, there are many out there, but P21S/S100 seems to get overall good marks, and at $31/$15, is somewhere in the middle of what you would spend on a nice wax (P21S and S100 are produced by the same company, so lots of people believe they are the same. I think it might have already been proven or somehting (?)). Pinnacle Souveran is a wax formulated for dark colors, but is around $70.

Personally, I believe there aren't any HUGE differences between the nicer waxes and sealants. However, you will probably see a difference between Gold Class and P21S. But P21S vs. Souveran...subtle differences (in the eye of the beholder).

As for Sealant vs. Carnauba Wax, the typical thing to do is sealant for protection and wax for looks, although a wax like Meguiar's #16 has durability sometimes surpassing certain sealants. The more durable sealants are Klasse Sealant Glaze (don't let "Glaze" fool you, it's not a glaze. A true glaze has little to no protection), Zaino (personally it doesn't look the best on dark), and Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection. Topping the sealant (after at least 24-48 hours) with a wax adds a warmer, deeper look, (although Wolfgang Sealant does look quite deep) with durability typically in the 1-2 month range.

Good Luck!

thanks mate i have actually been looking at the p21s and the pinnacle but have been swayed more towards the p21s as pinnacle isnt avalible in the uk !!!which is a shame

Your car's finish looks good from here. If you are satisfied with your polishes, then experiment with different lsp's. IMO, to reach the highest heights in a paint's finish will require a carnauba as an lsp. Do your research, and try out a few waxes or synthetics to see if any of them gives you the result that you are looking for.

While you are at it, experiment and try a different polish. Menzerna, Meguiars, Sonus, etc. are popular brands. Look at the reviews for the products as well as trying them yourself.

Good luck.

Hi Renton,

actually you can purchase pinnacle in the uk, although you need extremely deep pockets at £40.00 a go!

also if you are looking at the p21s at that site, you may want to look at this site to compare prices

!

Your car looks great, and there were some good suggestions above to possibly improve the appearance of your vehicle, I assume you use a PC ?

Hi there - I'm sure there are more experienced people who will respnd to this, but I think the Gold Class will negate any good the clearkote hand glaze gives. The GC is a cleaner wax and willremove the glaze - which means those swirls which you are trying to hide with the glaze are more visible than ever.

I'm not a fan of GC wax at all - I think it is hard work, gives poor results and has awful durability.

Can I suggest you try a good wax such as P21s (which is so easy to use it is untrue!!) over the glaze.

It really does all come down to; 85% preparation, 5% product, 7% application method and the balance is in the â€Ëœguyâ€â„¢ of the beholder.

I'd have to say your motor 'aint half bad, mate, and it sounds like you strive for perfection (your in the right place and in good company with Autopia)

In my experience with LSPs most of what you hear is true. Klasse may look plasticky or sterile, WG will look more like a carnauba, or P21S is deeper, glossier than #16... but in the end the difference is very subtle.

Any of the ones mentioned here are good if you do everything else (remove defects via polishing, clay, etc).

cheers guys !!!

everything i apply is by hand so its nice to stand back and see good reults!!!

one thing i did notice is that when i had used the hand glaze the car was well shiny , then i put the gold class on and it took some of the shine away???

is this because its a paint cleaner too??

do you think iwould get some good results with my polishes topped with ex sealent and then p21-s on top of that???

That color blue is begging for some VM and EX with Carnuba :)

VM and NXT would look really good too.

Your prep sounds pretty good and your car looks terrific as it is. Try a few LSPs like NXT, Wolfgang or Carnauba Moose on that color and see what you like best. Except minor improvements at best though.

Yup. Quit using the Gold Class. If you want to use cleaner waxes, then go with a brand like Mother's, and then use a carnauba on top of it.

My best results, as well as the best results I personally have seen, has come from a well prepped paint surface with the dilligent use of ONE choice of an lsp (a carnauba).
