How can I attack clearcoat failure?

I'm currently doing a restoration on a 1980 MB that was repainted about 10 years ago. Since then it has sat in the sun almost every day. There is already clearcoat failure but thankfully its only isolated on the trunk lid:

How can I fix this without repainting/respraying the trunk lid? I'm currently wetsanding the orange peel and was wondering if the sanding will also remedy the clearcoat failure.

Any suggestions?

You can't. You could treat those spots like paint chips, but the only way to fix it "right" is to reshoot the lid.
