Homemade QD?

I have read mention to making your own quick detailers and other concoctions. Anyone care to share recipes or guid eme to the links?

Thanks a bunch!

Frankly, I think it's just better to buy the pre-made QD by the gallon. Meg's, Griot's, and others sell their QD's by the gallon. Also, DP has a "4 in 1 rinseless" solution that is in concentrate form, and which can be added with water to make economical QD.

Yeah, there's some complex polymer chemistry that goes into QD's--I wouldn't go making any homemade concoction. Your best bet is to find a good, cheap QD by the gallon...Chemical Guys Speed Wipe is my favorite.

I've tried ONR as a QD and it was alright,

I also have clearkote quikshine and IMHO this stuff is awesome

I don't feel a need to make up my own mix, the quikshine works great

This much like PB SW? If so, looks like a winner!

Ahh, just thinking out loud when I posted, you know how it is :think2

On another forum, I saw a thread where a guy made his own QD out of hair conditioner and water. He claims he gets the same results as using a dedicated QD. I haven't tried this but I am skeptical. Where are the surfactants and emulsifiers? Hair conditioner is usually made up of softening agents and things to smooth the hair cuticle.

The only QD's I would use are the dedicated QD's, Shortspark's SG mix and the rinseless wash QD's from Optimum, DP and QEW.

Yes it is! I think it cleans exactly like S&W, and it's slick too. And it works great over anything, polymer or carnauba. Definitely the most versatile workhorse QD I've found. :xyxthumbs

Ahh I placed a CG order, but failed to try any of it. Oh well, odds are I will be ordering lots more from them afetr allt he good I have been hearing!

Thanks Sheman

No problem scooter! I get all my CG stuff from Danase.com because he has 16oz. sizes of a lot of their products, he has a forum discount, I can order other brands from him too (save on shipping), and customer service is awesome. :up

Wow, that's strange! Look at it this way: would you use a QD as hair conditioner? I sure wouldn't!

Over a KSGed surface, I've used a couple of ounces of AIO in a 16 oz. sprayer mixed with water as a QD; seemed to work well. Apparently, when diluted, AIO still has enough strength to work well on dust, road grime, finger prints, etc., but not enough cleaning power to do damage to the underlying layer(s) of Klasse (I didn't seem to have any obvious durability issues).

YMMV,

Tort
