Holy S... This new Subaru paint is HARD

I detailed an '07 Subaru Legacy this past weekend and the paint was ridiculously hard. I'm talking GM clearcoat hard. Even a brand new LC CCS Orange with Menzerna SIP with a couple passes only took out 80% of the imperfections. Anyone experience this? I mean, this was a fairly new car with low miles and only minor to moderate swirling and spider-webbing. I thought Subaru paint was noted to be softer... :think2

Previous model years are softer, at least in my experience (and I've done a number of cars for local Subie club members). I have an '08 STi to work on in mid-April; I'll be interested to see how easy the paint is to work with.

How many passes did you make? And what machine did you use?

I use a PC7424. For the majority of the car I did just one nice and slow pass with SIP, but on some areas I was curious as to how many it would take to get it perfect. I did one pass with IP/white pad, then 2 passes with SIP/orange and there was still noticeable imperfections. However, this intensive of polishing wasn't the plan for the whole car so I only continued with one pass of SIP/orange for the rest of the car. It still took me 3-4 hours of polishing, and 7 total hours to do the car (mainly focusing on the exterior) and trust me... I wasn't charging enough to merit any more hours than that, let alone those hours :doh

I'm doing an 07 legacy in the dark blue(not sure what it's called) tomorrow. Is it rediculously hard or just newer-volvo hard?

Be sure and update us here on how that goes. I'm curious to know if this was an isolated case or if it's the new rule with Subaru's.
