Hockey Visor Scratches/Swirls

Okay, all of you detailing geniuses, I've got a question regarding my hockey visor...

For many of you Yankees, who don't even know what a "visor" is, I'll show you a picture.

For those who actually play hockey and use a visor, you'll know that no matter how hard you try to protect your visor from light scratches, they are almost inevitable, so my question is how should I remove them.

I'm not 100% sure of the total composition of the visor, but I guess it is plastic. I've got light scratching or maybe swirls is a better description (no pics) on it which is giving me vision problems when I play (yes, I play).

So, in order that I reach my full potential and one day play for the Toronto Maple Laughs, I need my visor to be crystal clear. I was thinking PlastX by hand or with my DA but I'm open to anything.

I'm afraid of instilling more swirls. Any thoughts?

I am a 'Yankee' and know what a visor is....I was actually just about to polish my own visor.

I've got an Oakley and just took a stick up high yesterday causing a nice scratch where my left eye is. I'm talking, directly in my line of sight.

I'm going to try some PlastX on it in a bit. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I have used mild pads and products on my snowmobile windshields with good results. I think they are some type of polycarbonate, but they do scratch pretty easy. It has always been taboo to try and restore them, but I had an extra and decided to give it a whirl.

I was blown away by the results of ZPC and a 4" white pad on the PC. Similar products have shown similar results in my limited testing, too.

As to the similarities in plastics, your on your own, but I'd try it on a spare or just in a corner of your visor. Start mild and work up if needed obviously.

Good luck,

Randy

That's a legitimate concern. Personally, getting the plastic on a gauge cluster looking good is a far cry from clearing up optic grade plastic. What does the manufacturer say? I know with my Arai MC helmet, it is easier to just buy a replacement. Arai also warns against using anything but mild soap and water to clean. Your visor may be different. Sorry for not being more helpful but do you have access to another comparable visor to practice with?

I figured anyone north of DC would know what a visor is but had to covering my bases! LOL

Thanks, tell me how it works out for you. Mine is pretty hacked up from playing and just sitting in the bag (although I have a MF cover for it) and my bag has a special compartment for it. Worse than maintaining my paint.

etml12,

My visor was about $85 when I bought it and I'd rather not have to buy new *IF* the damage is fixable! Until I make the NHL I have to be mindful of how I spend! ;)
